Sama is the most important of the three vedas, rk,yajur and sama. It has several passages in praise of the deities and the three mentioned, sing the praise of the Lord Narayana. The whole Samaveda is musical and most difficult to learn. Siva is said to be pleased with chanting of sama by which Ravana invoked his blessing and obtained the boons.The Lord Himself says oin the Gita `vedhaanaam saamavedho asmi.' 583. saamagaH svayam thaadhrSi gaayathi.. The Lord Himself sings the sama and enjoys it. SaamabhiH manthraiH geeyathe ithi saamagaH, the one who is sung by the manthras of sama. Saama ithi anthasya api naama.sarvam praarabDham anthem gamayathi ithi vaa The word sama means antha, the end. Hence as the Lord carries all that has begun to its end he is called saamaga, `ga' denoting the act of going and gamayathi is the one who makes something go. 584.saama svagaayakaanaam api paapam syathi. Saama from so, to put an end to. Dispellar of sins. Syathi paapam ithi saamaH He is the Samaveda. The Lord is the bliss itself and also the means of attaining it. 586. bheshajam samsaaravyaaDheH oushaDham He is the medicine for the ills of samsara. 587. bhishak Expert in diagnosis as well as treatment. param vidhyaam upadhidheSa geethaayaam ithi. He iinstructed the greatest knowledge in Bhagavatgita which cures the ills of samsara and hence He is the greatest doctor, bhishak. 588.sanyaasakrth saathvikena sanyaasena rajasthamasee krnthathe. bharthari bharanyaasaH sannyaasaH. Sa hi bhava chikithsaa. Sannyasa or renuncialtion is saathvik when the attachment and desire for the fruit is given up. This is done when the burden of protection is laid on the Lord by total surrender. The Lord cuts asunder the bondeg and gives moksha. 589. samaH ichaa bhaya kroDha Saanthyupaayam aachashte, upadhiSathi The Lord is not only an embodiment of Sama, calmness or peace but also calms the mind of His devotees by instructing them to quell desire anger etc. He is called Sama because He is the leveler of all beings during pralaya and also because He ends the ignorance in the mind of His devotees. Samayathi ithi. 590. SaanthaH svayam cha SaanthaH The Upanishad describes Brahman as nishkalam nishkriyam Saantham, partless, actionless and peaceful He is Himself peaceful like waveless ocean. 591. nishTaa Object of concentration. 592.SaanthiH samastha avidhyaa nivrtthiH He removes all ignorance and creates Santhi, peace. Everything ends in Him, that is, acquire Santhi in Him. 593. paraayanam Ultimate means or end. Punaraavrtthi Sankaa rahitha sThaanam Attaining whom there is no return. .. ..
