They deludes when accumulated and hence how can the possessions bring happiness. arThaH may mean money or any object of desire. To acquire something you desire for may it be wealth, fame or power etc. you have to undergo a lot of trouble as nothing can be gained easily. After getting it, to protect it is even more difficult as one has to guard it from being confiscated by others, money may be stolen, fame may be tarnished by the jealous and the power may be ruined by enemies. If it is lost due to some reason, the plight of one who has gained and lost it is even more pitiable than one who has never got it. If it is saved and protected it deludes and turns one's head. So the possessions never cause happiness. Even if one goes through life without any of these happening, at the time of leaving this body they do not come with us. arThaaH grhe nivarthathe, all you have, return to the house and only your karma accompanies you. So one should be wise and spend his wealth and acquire good karma as we exchange local currency for the foreign currency which alone we can take when going abroad. Sankara gives a description one who has given up all possessions and their enjoyment. Such a person lives under a tree outside a temple, suramandhiratharumoolanivasah, he sleeps on the ground and wears a skin sayyaa bhoothalam ajinam vaasah, yet he is full of joy because he has no desires. So if one can be happy without possessions why go into so much trouble to acquire wealth and property just to be happy! The notion that happiness comes from outside objects or people is a myth. Happiness is like a butterfly when chased it goes farther and farther but when you simply keep quite it comes and sits on your shoulder by itself. Therefore the answer to the question `What should one do to get happiness" is, "Don't do anything." Happiness is a feeling that comes from within and not accomplished by any action
