In the kRti ‘kanugonu saukhyamu’ – rAga nAyaki, SrI tyAgarAja exults in the vision of the Lord.

Gist:

Excepting for those persons who have attained the grace of SrI rAma, is the comfort perceived by this tyAgarAja, attainable even to brahmA? Will those whose body is somewhere and the mind is somewhere else, and who deceive the people by donning garb elsewhere, ever achieve success?

Word-by-word Meaning

P Is the comfort (saukhyamu) perceived (kanugonu) (by me), attainable (galgunA) even by (aina) brahmA – born of Lotus (kamalajuku) (kamalajukaina)?

A Excepting (vinA) for that (those) person (persons) (atani) who has (have) attained (galgina) (galginayatani) the grace (daya) of SrI rAma – the enemy (vairi) (vairiyagu) of demons (danuja), is the comfort perceived (by me), attainable even to brahmA – born of Lotus?

C Will those (vAriki) – whose body (tanuvu) is somewhere (okacO) (tanuvokacO) and the mind (manasu) is somewhere else (okacO) (manasokacO), and who deceive (Ecu) the people (janulanu) (janulanEcu) by donning (iDi) garb (vESamu) elsewhere (okacO) (vESamokacOniDi), ever achieve success (jayamaunE)? is the comfort perceived by this tyAgarAja (tyAgarAju), attainable even to brahmA – born of Lotus?

This kriti belongs to a group of Kritis coming under the title of “Asad-Bhakti garhaNaâ€. In this series of Kritis, Sadhguru SwamigaL condemns the insincere and pompous ways of worshipping the Lord. Here, Thyaga Brahmam questions the futility of having one’s mind at one place and the body in another place. He makes a distinction between Sadh Bhakti and asadh Bhakti. Asadh bhakti by hypocrites clad in religious attires and pretending to do tapas to attract the attention of others for name, fame and wealth will not lead them anywhere says Saint ThyagarAja swamigaL. Other kritis in the asad bhakti garhaNa mode are:

(1) Padhavi nee sadhbhaktiyu galguDE in SaaLagabhairavi (2) Adhi Kaadhu Bhajana, ManasA in Yadhukula KaambhOji (3) TeliyalEru Raama, bhaktimArgamunu in dhEnukA (4) yEmantunE vichitramunu in SrImaNi (5) NaLinalOchana ninnu gAka in MadhyAmavati (6) Raam! neeyeDa prEma rahitulaku nAmaruchi dhelusunaa in Kharaharapriyaa and (7) UrakE galgunaa in SahAnaa raagam.

Naayki Raagam is a ubhaya vakra shAdava sampoorNa janya rAgam carved out of the 22nd MeLa karthA rAgam, Karaharapriyaa. The ArOhaNa AvarOhaNams are:

S R2 M1 P D2 N2 / S N2 D2 P M1 R1 G2 R2 S. The ghAndhAram and NishAdham are dheerga swarams and are also the jeeva and kampitaswarams in naayaki rAga. lakshaNam. This ragam is close to Durbar.
