151. evam ukthaH surasayaa praanjalirvaanarotthamaH

 

prahrshtavadhanaH Sreemaan idham vachanam abraveeth

 

Thus told by Surasaa, the best of monkeys, who is glorious, with pleasant face and folded hands said these words.

 

Evam ukthaH- thus told

 

Surasayaa- by Surasa

 

vaanarotthamaH- the best of monkeys, Hanuman,

 

Sreemaan, the glorious,

 

Prahrshta vasdhanaH- with pleasant face

 

praanjaliH – with folded hands

 

Idham vachanam- these words. Vachanam means speech in singular but said this speech does not sound right in English

 

152. raamo dhaaSaratThirnaama pravishto dhandakaavanam

 

lakshmaNena saha bhraathraa vaidhehyaa chaapi

bhaaryayaa

 

Rama, the son of Dasaratha, entered the Dandakaforest with his brither LakshmaNa and wife Seetha.

 

 

dhaaSaraThiH –son of Dasaratha

 

raamaH naama- named Rama

 

pravishtaH- entered

 

dhandakavanam- Dandaka forest

 

saha bhraathraa- with his brother

 

Lakshmanena – Lakshmana

153. anyakaaryavishakthasya badDh avairasya raakshasaiH

thasya seethaa hrthaa bhaaryaa raavaNena yasasvinee

 

His wife Seetha, renowned was abducted by Ravana when he was engaged in another task, due to enmity with the rakshasa.

raama Saasanaath

 

karthum arhasi raamasya saahyam vishayavaasini

 

I shall go near her as a messenger by the command of Rama. You , who live in his province should do help for Rama .

 

gamishyaami- I will go

 

thasyaaH sakaaSam- near her

 

dhootho aham- I am the messenger

 

raama Saasanaath- by the command of Rama

 

raamasya vishayavaasini- you who live in the province of Rama. vishaya has also the meaning of province or region besides the sense-object or subject of a work etc.

 

karthum arhasi -should do

 

thasya sahyam- his assistance.

 

 

 

155. aThavaa maiThileem dhrshtvaa raamam cha

aklishtakaarinam

 

aagamishyaami the vakthram sathyam prathiSrNomi the

 

Otherwise, seeing Seetha,and also Rama who could relieve her surffering, I will come to your mouth , I promise.

mythileem- Seetha, called mythilee because she was the daughter of the king of miThilaa.

abraveeth naathi vartheth maam kaSchih esha varo mama

 

Spoken thus by Hanuman Sarasa who could take any form as she liked, told him that her boon is such that no one could go past her.

Seeing him going away Surasa, the mother of nagas, said to Hanuman , wishing to know his strength,

nagamaathaa- the mother of serpents

vara esha puraadhattho mama Dhaathraa ithi sathvaraa

 

vyaadhaaya vakthrm vipulam sThithaa saa marutheH puraa

 

"Oh best among monkeys, go after entering my mouth now. This is the boon given to me by Brahma long ago."Quickly opening her mouth wide she stood in front of Hanuman.

abraveeth kuru vai vakthram yena maam visahishyasi

 

Told thus by Surasa Hanuman, the bull among monkeys, said "make your mouth fit to hold me."

dhaSayojanavisthaaro hanumaan abhavath thadhaa

 

saying thus to Surasa who became 10 yojana wide, Hanuman became 10 yojanas long and wide.

Seeing him like a cloud 10 yojanas wide Surasa opened her mouth to 20 yojanas wide.

The angry Hanuman became 30 yojanas wide and Surasa opened her mouth 40 yojanas wide.

The valiant Hanuman became 50 yojanas wide and Surasa opened her mouth 8o yojanas wide.

Hanuman like a mountain became 90 yojanas wide.Surasa made her mouth 100 yojanas wide

dheerghajihvam surasayaa sughoram narakopamam

 

seeing the mouth of Surasa opened wide with long tongue, fierce and like the hell, Hanuman , the son of Vayu and wise,

166. samkshipya aathmanaH kaayam jeemootha iva maaruthiH

thasmin muhurthe hanumaan babhoova

angushTamaathrakaH

 

contracting his body like a cloud Hanuman, the son of Vayu, became thumbsized in a moment.

thasmin muhurthe- in the instant

anthrikshe sThiathaH Sreemaan idham vachanam

entering into the mouth quickly and emerging out with great speed, hanuman stood in the sky and said,
