This sloka is about Parasuramavathara, which was an aavesa avathara and not a direct incarnation of the Lord. To eradicate evil perpetuated by the unrighteuous kings headed by Karthveeryarjuna who killed Jamadhagni, the father of Parasurama, the Lord manifested Himself in Parasurama. muniH – the sage, meaning Parasurama, bhagavaan- the Lord Himself, yaH-who santharpayishyan- satisfied kroDhaagnim- the fire of wrath jamadhagnipeedana bhavam- which was born out of the killing of Jamadhagni, his father, kramaath- by turns samthathaksha- chiseled medhineem –the earth akshathriyaam- making it free of kshatriyas thrisapthkrthvah- for 21 times dhathvaa thaam - and giving the earth thus conquered dhakshiNaam -as dhakshinaa, the gift for performing yaga (to sage Kasyapa) aaskandhya – occupied kvachana- some place vasan- and lived sindhum – on the sea, apaakarothu- may remove abrahmaNyam- the evil , brahmaNya denotes dharma signifying the code of conduct followed by brahmins , or followers of the path of Brahman and abhrhmaNyam refers to the path of adharma. aabrahmakeetam- of all right from Brahma till the smallest insect, including all creations. It is said that Parsurama swung his axe into the sea and it created a region of land where he resided hence forth. This is supposed to be the land of Kerala and that is why it is known as Parasuramakshethram. Kaarthaveerya was vanquished by Parasurama because he stole the divine cow from the asram of his father and his sons took vengeance and killed Jamadhagni while Parasurama was away doing penance. For this, Parasuram destroyed all kshathriyas who supported them and his attack was repeated twenty one times. The Lord took back His powers invested in Parasurama in the Ramavathara.
