HH Sri Vanamamalai chinna ThiruvEnkata rAmAnuja Jeeyer 1732-1757 (Twelfth

pattam)

As soon as Sri Periya deivanAyakan swamy attained paramapadam a srimukam was

sent to ThiruvEnkata Jeeyer swamy in Srirangam. Swamy was struck by grief on

hearing about the sad demise of his beloved acharya. Finishing up with the

appropriate rituals (sreechoorna paripAlanam etc) swamy wanting to return back

to Vanamamalai for kainkaryam requested the same in front of Periya perumal.

Perumal with a favourable nod blessed him with theertham, thirumAlai,

thiruparivattam etc and crowned him as Vanamamalai rAmanuja Jeeyer with his

sadagopan and sent him. The king also honored jeeyer and finally swamy reached

Vanamamalai.

Coming to know of the arrival of Vanamamalai ThiruvEnkata Jeeyer, Sri

deivanAyakan and sirivaramangai nachiyar ordered the kainkaryaparas to welcome

swamy with the respective honours and hence the srivaishnavas went to welcome

swamy with perumal’s thirumAlai, thiruparivattam, abhaya hastham, prasadam

accompanied by chatra sAmaram and sound of divine instruments. Swamy did

shAshtAngapranAmam and accepted the perumal’s thirumAlai, thiruparivattam etc

with due respects. As swamy approached the gopura vAsal, he was welcomed by

perumal’s srisadagopan. Swamy did shAshtAngapranAmam and accepted the

srisadagopan on his head with great regards. Then in the appropriate manner

swamy did mangalAsAsanam to deivanAyaka perumal. DeivanAyaka perumal graced him

with special interest as swamy belongs to the Vanamamalai acharya clan and hence

blessed swamy with theertham, prasadam and named him as Vanamamalai rAmAnuja

Jeeyer and then blessed him with his srisadagopan.

Then through the archakar perumal ordered swamy to stay in the mutt and take

care of all the srikaryams and work for the upliftment of our darshanam and then

called the other srivaishnavas and asked them to leave Vanamamalai Jeeyer in the

mutt with all the required honours.

Swamy’s kainkaryams

1. Swamy did all the appropriate rituals for his acharya Sri deivanAyaka swamy

for a year and also celebrated the theerthanAl.

2. Swamy then built a beautiful mandapam called parakalavilasam with many

sculptural pillars for the purpose of kalashepam and dhayeeyAradhanam for

bhagavatas.

3. Swamy then built a kitchen (paniyAra thirumadappalli) made of strong stones

for aranganagarappan.

4. Around the thiruvarasu, in the banks of settru thAmarai swamy built a fence

(thirumadhil) and in the center he built a thirumandapam for deivanayaka perumal

to place his divine feet.

5. Then swamy made a golden simhAsanam for perumal and piratti to be seated

always.

6. Then for perumal to enjoy his purappadu during the utsava times swamy made a

beautiful golden palanquin (thiruseevigai).

7. Then swamy made a beautiful crown studded with all precious stones for

deivanAyaka perumal and also a pallakku made out of pure gold.

8. Moreover swamy made beautiful golden vimAnams for both kidandha and erundha

nambis in thirukkurungudi. Further swamy made golden kavasams appropriately for

nindra nambi and also a crown out of pure gold and golden thiruvAzhi and

thirusangu for his divine hands.

In this way swamy, who had the blessings of both Periya perumal and deivanAyaka

perumal and who was fully graced by azhvar, did number of kainkaryams as per the

anushtanams of poorvacharyas and spent time in kalashepams and bhagavata

dhadheeyArAdhanams and remained with number of shisyas in the peedam

successfully for 25 years.
