Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe Ramanujaya namaha Sri Vara Vara munaye Namaha Sri ILaiyAzhwAr Vaibhavam-10 Aalavandaar went to perumal’s sannadhi and with hands folded, stood in front of Periya perumal. Understanding the intentions of aalavandaar, perumal called thiruvarangaperumal araiyar who in an unconventional way started reciting “soozhvizum pani mughil” (NammAzhvar’s last but one thiruvAimozhi). Everyone over there was struck with great surprise, not being able to understand why araiyar was reciting those paasurams out of order. At the same time, the flower garland adorned by perumal (thirunettri mAlai) fell down. Even before nambi could catch hold of it, thiruvaranga perumal araiyar got hold of the garland and presented it to aalavandaar as perumal’s prasAdam. Aalavandaar accepted the same with great pleasure while araiyar exclaimed, “So now your wish is satisfied!” Perumal then honoured aalavandaar with theertham, prasadam and srisadagopan and bid good-bye. Aalavandaar returned back to the mutt and did dhadheeyArAdhanam to the mudalis (disciples viz., ThirukkOtiyur nambi, Periya nambi, thiruvaranga perumal ariayar) and requested them to forgive all the mistakes committed by him. Thiruvarangaperumal araiyar taken aback replied, “Can a noble soul like you can ever commit any mistake?” Aalavandaar then had some prasadams and continued his words of wisdom to his disciples. At that time, two srivaishnavas from pErarulAlan sannadhi coming to know about the state of aalavandaar, came to koil (srirangam) and with heavy heart, prostrated the divine acharya. Aalavandaar enquired about the happenings in perumal koil and especially about elaiyAzhvar. The srivaishnavas replied, “ElaiyAzhvar getting vexed with yadhava has now left him and is at present involved in the kainkaryam of pErarulAlan”. Filled with ecstasy aalavandaar exclaimed, “Oh! Then pErarulAlan has accepted my prayer and has got elayAzhvar to the right track”. Highly grateful to pErarulAlan for the same aalavandaar started reciting many strotras exalting the greatness of pErarulAlan. Finally regaining composure, aalavandaar told his very close disciple Periya nambigal as follows: “ Oh! Nambi I am very glad to hear that elaiyAzhvar has left yadhava and is now in the divine service to emperuman; this is the right time for us to make him join our group. You go over there right now and do the needy.” As per the orders of the acharya Periya nambi immediately left to perumal koil. Meanwhile, Aalavandaar’s health further deteriorated filling the minds of all the disciples with utmost tension not being able to really understand the inner thought of Periya perumal. That day happened to be a very special day for pErarulAlan (Vaikasi thirunAl). On the final day of the festive occasion (avabruthasnAnam), Sri Aalavandaar took bath and went to have darshan of Periya perumal. The screen was opened, after the offerings were submitted to emperuman making room for aalavandaar to have the divine experience of darshan of Periya perumal from lotus feet to divine head (pAdhAdhi kEsAntham) and vice versa (kEsAdhipAdham) and also the thiruppAnAzhvar under the divine feet of emperuman. Then nambi honored the acharya with srisadagopan, theertham and prasAdam. Accepting the same with gratefulness aalavandaar returned back to his mutt. Again, Aalavandaar accepted the theertham from the mudalis (disciples, bhagavata sri pAda theertham). Swamy then did dhadheeyArAdhanam and accepted the sesha prasAdam (vaikAsi month, 6th day sravana nakshatram, abhijinmukurtham). He then fell to the feet of all the Azhvars and the poorvAcharyas and all the bhagavatas and begged pardon for all his mistakes. Taken aback by the action of swamy, the mudalis said, “Oh! His highness, a mistake will be committed by you only if a mistake occurs by Periya perumal himself” (implying that neither Periya perumal nor aalavandaar can ever commit any mistake). Aalavandaar then handed over all the responsibilities of bhagavat/bhagavata kainkaryams in the hands of thiruvaranga perumal araiyar and requested in front of the disciples as follows “continue the thiruvArAdhanam and manthra pushpam to Periya perumal without fail regularly and in the right time. Always have a soft corner towards the acharyas, the disciples and also towards all srivaishnavas and welcome them”. The disciples accepted to act according to the request of the acharya. It was time to bid goodbye and hence aalavandaar sat in padmAsanam and meditated on the divine feet of his acharya, manakkAl nambi. The disciples with great respect towards the acharya started reciting brahmavalli, bruhuvalli, purusha sooktham, archirAdi and soozh vizhum pani mughil. The couch was blown and the sound of divine instruments filled the air. Everyone’s mind was filled with grief, while the great acharya attained paramapadam through the brahmarandram.
