Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe Ramanujaya namaha Sri Vara Vara munaye Namaha Sri ILaiyAzhwAr Vaibhavam-13 Elaiyazhvar and Periya nambigal reached perumal koil, when thirukkachchi nambigal welcomed them and prostrated Periya nambi. Periya nambi blessed thirukkachchi nambi and with his purushakaram (recommendation) went to have the darshan of “ulagamEththum Azhiyan aththiyoorAn” perarulAlan. Similar to manakkal nambi doing upadesam to alavandaar the divine arthas which were passed on to him from nathamunigal via uyyakondar and submitting him to the divine feet of Periya perumal now Periya nambigal also fell to the feet of perarulAlan after fulfilling the wishes of alavandaar after many obstacles. Then Periya nambigal accompanied elaiyazhvar to his house. Elaiyazhvar made arrangements for nambigal to stay in the first floor of the house and also submitted the required things for nambigal to lead his life. Nambi stayed as per the wish of elaiyazhvar in his house for six months and thought elaiyazhvar the dravida veda prabhandams and darshana vishaya rahasya vishEshangal. Elaiyazhvar was deeply enjoying his time in the shadow of the acharya when one day, one srivaishnava who came to do service to elaiyazhvar (massage oil to his hair) requested for some food. Immediately elaiyazhvar asked his wife if there was some left over food in the house. Elaiyazhvar’s wife said that there was absolutely no food in the house. Elaiyazhvar sent her out on a different errand and then searched through the kitchen. He was amazed to find lot of food left over there. Immediately he called his wife and with great anger said, “why did you say there was no food? You have refused to give food for a starving srivaishnava. ‘edumbaiyAl adarpuNdu eduminO tuttrendru erandhavarkku elaliyE endru nenunsollAl maruththa neesaiyirE nee’ (you are a cheap person who refused food for a person who was suffering from hunger and who asked for a little food to satisfy his hunger)”. Another day there happened to be a fight between elaiyAzhvar’s wife and Periya nambigal’s wife on a simple issue of drawing water from the well. Coming to know about the incident Periya nambigal without informing elaiyazhvar left to Srirangam (koil). ElaiyAzhvar finished his anushtanams and came to prostrate Periya nambigal. He was surprised to not find his acharya over there. He asked the people around, “where is nambigal?” They replied that he has gone back to Periya koil. Surprised to hear the same elaiyazhvar asked, “How is that possible? Why did he leave without even telling me?” They replied, “A fight occurred between the two wives for a simple matter of drawing water from the well. Coming to know of this Periya nambigal scolded his wife and fearing for any further bhagavata abhacharam immediately left to koil. Hearing this elaiyAzhvar got very angry with his wife and said, “You have proved the saying, “pApAnAmAkarastriyaha” to be true. Earlier you did bhagavata apacharam with thirukkachchi nambigal and the srivaishnava. Now you have done asahyAbhachAram fighting with the acharya’s wife. So now you leave back to your parent’s house”. In this manner elaiyazhvar sent his wife back to her parent’s house along with the required wealth for her sustenance, the rest of the life. We will see how elaiyAzhvar entered into the sanyAsAsramam in the next posting.
