ANDAL'S ENVY CONCH'S PRIDE -3

In the previous postings, it was seen that the pAnchajanyam is fiery to the

opponents which was seen from thriu voi mozhip pAsuram and its so dear to His

devotees which was seen from nAchiAr thiru mozhip pAsuram.

Thirumangai AzhwAr has clearly combined these both aspects and spelt out in the

sixth ten of thiru mozhi:

" pandhAr viralAl pAnjAli kUndhal mudikka bhAradhathuk

kanhAr kaLiRRuk kazhal mannar mALach changam vAi vaithAn... " 6-7-8 peirya thiru

mozhi.

For the sake of pAnjAli Lord krishNa connected His divine mouth to the conch to

decimate the opponent kings. Here, thus it is seen that devotees wish and removal

of hurdles are sought to be done.

The conch is thus being remembered time and again by AzhwAr's and AndAL is no

exception.

She mentions in nAchiAr thiru mozhi 5-2

" veLLai viLi sangu idang kayil koNda

vimalan enakku vuruk kAttAn... "

Here,AndaL describes her agony due to separation from the Lord. She mentions in

this pAsuram

The LOrd with the white calling conch does not show Himself.

AndAL does not just want the vision of the Lord, but the vision of the Lord with

the divine conch. This is because she considers the conch as a divine ornament.

It was seen earlier the conch terrorises with the sound. How come it is an

ornament? For the devotees it is an ornament. It fits in well in His left

hand. She picutures Him with the pAnchajanyam and looks for His arrival.

In the first thiru varangam pAsuram

" thAm vugakkum tham kayil,

sangamE pOlAvO!.yAm vugakkum en kayil

sangamum EndhiyaiEr.. " nAchiAr thiru mozhi 11-1

Here, AndAL requests for the ornament of the Lord. Due to the separation AndAL

mentins that the vaLai in her hand is gone. The separation is due to the Lord

and AndAL's ornamnet is gone due to Lord's action/inaction. Hence, it is His

duty to replace it with His ornament namely the pAnchajanyam. the Lord does not

show Himself and hence AndAL feels that He not only takes away the ornament of

AndAL but also does not desire to part with His ornament. She asks " is it fair

to take away ones belongings and also to refuse to reciprocate with

replacement? " the idea here is to have vision of the Lord with the divine conch.

She desires to see the Lord with the conch.-yAm vugakkum en kayil sangamum

EndhiyaiEr.

In the above pAsuram-s glimpses of AndaL's desire for the Lord with the conch is

explicitly said.

Is that all?
