Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha

Sri Vara Vara munayE Namaha

Sri vAnAchala mahA munayE Namaha

Bhattar nirvAham (contd)

Further Sri Parasara bhattar continues to show how the three parts of

thirunedunthAndakam gives the meanings of the three great secrets in sampradayam

called the rahasyathrayam, viz., thirumanthram, dvayam, charama slokam.

First ten gives the essence of THIRUMANTHRAM

“ennuruvil nindra endhai” (1) – pranavArtham

“thalirpuraiyum thiruvadi en thalai mElavE (1) – na: sabdhArtham

“minnuruvAi munnuruvil” (1) – nArAyana sabdhArtham

Second ten gives the essence of the second rahasyam, DVAYAM

“villiruththu melliyal thOL thOiththAi” (13) and

“thirumAlai pAdakkEttu” (14) -‘srimath’ padArtham

“kandrumEiththu enidhugandha kAlAi” (16) and

“thundrukuzhal karuniraththu en thunaiyE” (16) – nArAyana sabdhArtham

“adiyinaiyum kamalavaNNam” (18) – charaNa sabdhArtham

“edu seidhAr” (11) and “pErpAdi” (19) – sharaNa sabdhArtham

“neervaNNan neermaikkE pOvEn” (18) and “neerAda pOnAl” – prapathyE

“pAvai mAyan moiyagalaththuliruppAl” (19) and “piththar panimalar mEl

pAvaikku” (18) – uttarakaNda ‘srimad’ sabdhArtham

“pAraiyundu…” (20) – uttarakaNda nArAyana sabdhArtham

“pErpAdith thAnkudandhai nagarum pAdi” (19) – na: sabdhArtham

Third ten gives the essence of the third rahasyam, CHARAMA SLOKAM

“kaivalaiyum mEgalaiyum kAnEn” (22) and

“erukaiyil sangivai nilla” (24) – ‘sarva dharmAn parithyajya’

“karumugilE oppar vannam” (24) and

“orukaiyil sangoru kai mattrAzhi A-ndhiengE vandhu” (24) – thereby indicates

to mAmEkam, the one who is seen along with the conch in hand.

“enthan ponnilangu mulaikuvattil poottikkondu” (28) and

“andrAyar kulamagalukkaraiyan thannai – adinAyEn ninaindhittEnE” (29) – puts

the meaning of ‘shAranam vraja’ into practice

“minnumAmazhai thavazhum mEgavaNNA vinnavar tham perumAnE” (30) – ‘aham’

“arulAi” otherwise “ennai arulAi” – ‘tvA’

“thollai pazhavinai mudhalariya vallAr thAmE” (30) – ‘sarvapApEbyO

mOkshayishyAmi’

“arulAi” (30) – ‘mAsucha:’

[Dear bhagavatas, I am sure that most of the words given above will be puzzling

to many of you. These are rahasyams (secrets) that have been preserved as

precious gems by our poorvAcharyas. Secret doesn’t mean that it should not be

leaked out at all; it is not given to all who are not qualified. But the

admission is easy; get SAMASRAYAM from your acharya at once who will do the

rahasyatraya upadesam to you. But the same acharya may not be able to explain

the meanings of the same in detail (we are not ready to give them the time due

to our busy schedule though they are ever ready to help us out) so now here is a

very rare but precious opportunity to learn the Thirumanthram the first of the

rahasyams sitting at home (through cds) spending just 18 hours of our time this

margazhi month that starts from today. Visit

http://ramanuja.cc.uic.edu/cgi-bin/thirum.pl to register immediately so that you

don’t miss this opportunity.]

We will continue with more of bhattar’s nirvAham in the next posting.
