AchArya Hrdhyam suthram 224

The Sixth Ten Contd

Lord divine feet as the means- AzhwAr leads by example.

" piNakkaRath thodangi vEdhap puNidha irudhi sonna sAthyOpAya sravaNa sasOja

sadhAyErkku 'thandhanan maRRoar kaLai kaN ilam, pugundhEan' enRu svachithOpAya

nishtyaiyai vukthi anushtAnangaLAlEa kAttugiRAr ARAm pathilEA "

Summary: AzhwAr preached right from the pAsuram " piNakkaRa " to " vEdhap puNidha

irukkai " exhorting deep devotion and the fact of the bhakthi yOga not fit for

srEvaishNavic soul as a means. Those , who feel for this are blessed by the

Lord by offering His divine feet as the only refuge for AzhwAr. AzhwAr accepting

this exhibits what he has preched earlier --> The divine feet as the means -- in

this sixth ten--ARAm pathu.

What was AzhwAr's preaching earlier . " vaNakkudai thava neRi vazhi ninRu "

emphasises to select the appropriate means to reach Him. The pAsuram - " vEdhap

puNidha irukkai nAvil koNdu gnAna vidhi pizhaiAmEa achudhan thannai mEavith

thozhudhu vuiminErgaL " stressing that bhakthi yOgam does not only call for

impeccable procedures and meticulous following but also does not behove the

basic nature of the soul.

The Lord offers His feet as the refuge which AzhwAr accepts and surrenders unto

His divine feet completely in -thiru malai- dhivya dhEsam - demonstrating

incisively the pUrvArtham of dhvyam.

'The charaNAgathi' at His feet is what AzhwAr had preached earlier, as seen

above, which is aptly practised here is demonstrated in practice-practising what

one preaches.

pAsuram-s: AzhwAr preached to sift the means and follow the right one.

" vaNakkudaith thava neRi vazhi ninRu, puRa neRi kaLai kattu " ---> thiru voi mozhi

1-3-5----> Leave other paths of attaining Him. Follow the path of extreme

devotion is Sri Lord krishNA's sermon

" mEavith thozhudhu vuimenErgaL, vEdhap puNidha irukkai, nAvil koNdu achuthan

thannai gnAna vidhi pizhaiAmEA.. "

Worhsip Him with good-vEdham-s like purusha sUktham which proclaim His

qualities. Follow the path of devotion impeccably-gnAna vidhi pizhaiyAmEa.

Follow the prescriptions as laid down meticulously.

The Edu vyAkyAnam for gnAna-vidhi-pizhaiyAmEa " gnanamAgiRadhu-gnAna

vishEshamAna bhakthiyai. bhakthipalAthkruthamAna kriyaigaLil onRum kuRaiyAmEa "

It is imperative from the aformentioned facts, that this path not only calls for

perfect procedural following but also does not behove the very nature of soul.

The thiru voi mozhi which preaches in the sixth ten is " nal guravum' -thiru

viNNagar pAsuram-s. What does it say?

" thandhanan than thAL nizhalEa " 6-3-9 , the Lord offering His divine feet

and

AzhwAr declaring " thiru viNNagar mannu pirAn kaLai kaN ilam kANmingaLEA " 6-3-10-

procaliming that The oppiliappan's divine feet is the only refuge.

and in fact following this up with actual practical act of total surrender unto

the feet of thiru vEnkatamudaiy

An

" adik kEzh amarndhu pugundhEanEa' 6-10-10

It may thus be observed that this surrender has been essayed in three

dhivya-dhEsam-s earlier -vAna mA malai - 5-7,

thiruk kudanthai-5-8 and thiru valla vAzh -5-9 and in vibhavam -piRandhavARum

5-10. This culminated into ultimate surrender at the thirumalai

thiru-vEnkatakumdaiyAn's holy feet - A milestone indeed.

Lord divine feet as the means- AzhwAr leads by example.
