In the previous posting we saw about the tattva vachanam and tattva darsi

vachanam. An interesting incident in the life of Swamy emperumAnAr shows the

importance of tattva darsi vachanam. Swamy emperumAnAr visited thirukurungudi

to do mangalasasanams to nambi. Nambi invited emperumAnAr with a big smile on

his face and asked him " Oh! Ramanuja it is really amazing. I took many avataras

and tried to uplift these jeevatmas. I took avatara as Rama and gave the

rAmacharama slokam. Still it was not enough. So I took the next avatara Sri

KrishnAvatara and gave the divine geethA sAstram but again even arjuna who heard

it fully didn't fall to my feet immediately and after a few days he even forgot

all the divine arthas I gave him. But how is it that you are able to have so

many followers and how are you able to bring all these men folks into the

sharanAgathi mArkam? " Swamy emperumAnAr didn't answer this question immediately

instead he told emperuman, " Oh! Lord this is divine secret. Adiyen cannot tell

you the same if you ask me in this fashion. Give me the seat of an acharya and

you become my disciple only then will I give you the secret. " It is not that

nambi was ignorant of the fact but this was his leela so emperuman with a

pleasing smile followed what emperumAnAr said and gave him the seat of an

acharya and nambi became his disciple. At that time emperumAnAr answered in the

ears of nambi as follows, " Oh! My lord all this happened due to the greatness of

the thirumanthram only " It was no magic; emperumAnAr didn't use anything

different he used only the thirumanthram to bring the jeevatmas to this fold.

GeethAcharyan said, " mAm Ekam sharaNam vraja " but emperumAnAr said, " Fall to the

divine feet of Parthasarathi " and not stopping with that he showed all his

followers how to do it and what result he has obtained due to this act.

Emperuman is a separate tattva, Ishvara tattvam so it is difficult for him to

become a jeevatma even though he tries his maximum to act similarly. In his

ramavatara he tried to be a manushya and thus he declares in many places

[ " athmAnam mAnushyam manyE " ] but still his Ishvara qualities peep here and there

[jadAyu moksham, samudra raja sharaNagathi etc]. That is why emperuman decided

to send the azhvars and acharyas [Like using a trained elephant to catch another

elephant]. We are all used to follow the same procedure followed by our

preceptors. If many people say the same thing we even start believing

falsehood. Thus in our sampradayam, tattva darsi vachanam is given a higher

state of respect. But the real fact is our azhvars or acharyas never contradict

the words of emperuman or the sAstras. They have only put the sAstras in simple

words easily understandable by even mandha buddhi jeevAtmas.

The main idea of this series of posting is to through light on the fact that

whatever the azhvars have said is nothing other than the reflection of the

sAstras. This is just a small try by a beginner like adiyen. The series may

contain more of mistakes than any useful essence due to adiyen's ignorance and

lack of knowledge. But if incase it had served the purpose with which adiyen

actually started then it is purely due to the divine blessings of asmad

acharyan, HH Sri Kaliyan ramanuja Jeeyer swamy and of course due to the divine

grace of geethAcharyan Sri Parthasarathi emperuman and the representative of all

the azhvars the kadai kutti azhvar, Sri Kaliyan. Whatever may be adiyen has

spent some useful hours trying to understand the meaning and convey the same to

all of you. Next posting will be the concluding posting in this series.
