Who cut her nose to size? It is iLaya-perumAL. However, sri periyAzhwAr and AndAL have mentioned that sri rAmA had done this act. sri thiru-mangai-mannan also has this opinion. sri periyAzhwAr had mentioned in " ...sUrpanakAvai seviyOdu mUkku, anRu Arka arindhAnaip pAdip paRA... " periyAzhwAr thiru-mozhi 3-9-8; Here it is mentioned that sri rAmA had cut her to size. The vyAkyAnam clarifies the position : " iLaya-peurmAL karaNabhUdhar AgaiyALEa, karthrthvam perumALadhAgach sollugiRadhu " . This act is attributed to Lord sri rAmA as iLaya-perumAL has done this as an extended arm of the Lord. sri periyAzhwAr has further considered this in " mUkku pOkkuvithAn " in 4-2-2; and in " thangaiyai mUkkum thamaiyanaith thalaiyum thadindha, em dAsarathE pOi " 4-7-1; sri AndAL mentions this as an act of sri rAmA in " kollai arakkiyai mUkkarindhitta kumaranAr " nAchiyAr thiru-mozhi 10-1; thirumangai-AzhwAr has mentioned this as of sri rAmA's act in periya-thiru-mozhi 3-9-4 " kAdhodu mUkkudan ariyak kadhaRi avaLOdi " It is observed that the deed of sri LakshmaNa is being deemed by AzhwAr's as done by sri chakravarthith thiru-magan. vanamamalai padmanabhan Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
