Guest guest
Great Wall of lankA mum-madhiL ilangai When siRiya thiruvadi visited lankA, he was greatly surprised by the three protections lankA had and this is mentioned by sri vAlmiki; sri thiru-mangai mannan in thiru-ezhu-kURRirukkai 1= talks of this aspect; " mum-madhiL ilangai " Here three walls are mentioned. a. The wall of water ; b. The wall of mountains and c; The wall of forests. sri lankA was surrounded by water. the inner circle is mountains and forests. Then the great grand wall built around the city. rAvanA however was thinking that this wall was His security. This was pierced by sri rAma's arrows. " madhiL ilangai kOvai vEya-siali kunithAi " 4-3-1 of thiru-voi-mozhi; EDU: " sarva rakshaganAna perumALai vittu, madhilai 'rakshagam' enRirundhAnAyiRRu; idhiREA, thAn thanakku paNNikkoLLum 'rakshai' " Class indeed. Ignoring the saviour of the whole worlds, rAvanA considered the wall as his security. This is ones own man-made protection. 'I am the king of the lankA =the lankA protected by walls " were his egoistic thoughts which was vanquished alongwith him. This is again mentioned by kaliyan in periya thiru-mozhi 6-8-5 " kal Ar madhiL sUzh kadi ilangai.. " The lankA surrounded by strong stone walls. Again AzhwAr reiterates the wall of water. " madhiL nEr ilangaiAr kOvai allal seidhu.. " periya thiru-mozhi 8-6-3; And further, " shEma madhiL sUzh then-ilangai " 8-6-5; The lankA which was surrounded by walls of safety and ruled by rAvanA whose heads and arms were cut off by sri rAmA. The Moral of the story: He is our protector. Any other man made protection/self protection may not shelter us in the long-run and in the ultimate analysis. Though, vAlmiki and AzhwAr-s have talked high of the Great walls of lankA, ultimately the message is He is the saviour. Guest guest
AzhwAr emperumAnAr jIyar thiruvadigaLE saraNam aruLALa perumAL emperumAnAr thiruvadigaLE saraNam Dear Sri Padmanabhan Swamin, These are the thoughts that ran into my mind when I read your mail below. Doesnt this reflect the situation of Thirumalai. I am not comparing ilangai with Thirumalai, forgive me, if I had given a wrong impression with the limited knowledge I have. I am just trying to compare the situation and the walls. If " mum-madhiL ilangai " with its walls made of water, mountains, and forests, and further with inner man-made walls cannot be protected, do you think the madhiL what TTD is building, given the security as reasons, will improve the protection of Thirumalai any further. Also when the protector of all worlds himself resides inside the temple what is the need for such idoitic projects. What makes things worse is, these useless projects are initiated by people who are learned (So called). When the knowledge that is gathered cannot bring out the humility in a person, what is the use of such knowledge which is not put to proper use. How can we call those so called learned, a learned, when the knowledge they gained brings out the arrogance, and greed in them. They are still an illitrate, with half-baked knowledge which is much more dangerous than a complete illiterate. We can clearly see the effect of that in Thirumalai. So, when ilangai with all its walls, and ruled by the most powerful king in the world, cannot be protected, will these new walls of thirumalai built for security reasons, in this age of missiles, and nuclear bombs, and governed by corrupt TTD, offer any protection, more than the protection offered by the lord himself. May Lord Venkateswara teach a lesson to these perverted minds, and make them follow the righteous path. pallAndu pallAndu pallAyirathAndu palakodi nUrayiram | mallAnda thindoL maNivannA un sEvadi sevvi thirukkAppu || adiyOmOdum ninnOdum pirivinni Ayiram pallAndu vadivAi nin valamArbinil vAzhginra mangayum pallAndu | vadivAr sodhi valatthurayum sudarAzhiyum pallAndu padaipOr pukku muzhangum appAnja sanniyamum pallAnde || adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, Srinivas Thirumalai Vinjamoor ____________________________ So many sects so many creeds, So many paths that wind and wind, While just the art of being kind, Is all the sad world needs.
