Guest guest
Dear Friends, You must have observed that the www.vanamamalai.com site is rapidly undergoing changes. Currently I am on an endevour to add more value especially since the digital revolution has brought in more opportunity in capturing visuals. I am glad to note that coming December, the site will be completing 5 years. At this moment I propose that we encourage the younger students to participate more in adding value. I have posted an open invitiation on the site drawing attention of the institutional heads of schools in and around Nanguneri to encourage siblings to more write about our native place. Kindly convey this message far and wide. A quick review into the past shows that the participation by the citizens of nanguneri (Vanamamalai), now settled elsewhere - by contributing content - at the least appreciating the need to document the local culture had been bare minimum or nil. I hope that will change in coming days. I also understand (and have become member of) that an interaction group namely vanamamalai has been started by like minded. I encourage you to join the same. I donot know much about those members. One Mr. upson had contacted me for some information. He also has sought help on the following matter. Kindly get back if you have any information. Quote: " Thank you very much for your information on " Gaganagirimuni Guruparamparaa prabhavam. " I am now able to include the book in our catalog. It will soon be available to scholars doing research at the University of Chicago. I am also delighted to let you know that I have found another work, also rare and presumably very old as well. It is entitled " Sri Varamankaimuni Vaibavam. " Unfortunately, the book is somewhat damaged, but it will be bound and repaired. It belonged to a Tamil scholar at the University. This book was also published by the order of the 27th pontiff, Chinna Ramanuja Swami. It seems to be a narrative on the first Swami of the Mutt, Sri Vanamamalai. Is this correct? Also, no author is listed for this book. Do you perhaps know who wrote it? I see that is was published in Madras, but I cannot tell which year. The front cover reads " Jaya-.luu Maaci-mai " I believe. I am not sure what this means. Guest guest
I have inherited a good copy of Varamangaimuni Vaibhavam from my scholor grandfather Late Sri Vidhwan Gopala Iyengar which is in my possession now. This work was published in Jaya (name of Tamil year)Varusham Maasi(Tamil month) and this is what is indicated on the cover. Authors were my own grandfather and another Vidhwan by name Thirukkannapuram Srinivasa Iyengar. This work is simplified reproduction of the manuscript by the same name which was at Vanamamalai mutt and which was in a damaged condition. Since they did not have the means to restore they re wrote at the instance of the then pontiff. As rightly observed this book talks about the first jeeyar who established Vanamamalai Mutt at the instance of his Guru Manavalamamunigal. Even Gaganagirimuni Guru Prampara Prabhavam was also done the same way. Last chapter on that book is about the then pontiff 27 th Jeeyar which was written by my grandfather Vidhwan Gopala Iyengar himself.
