Dear All,

In the previous email of this posting, there was a typo in the name of Divya

Desam mentioned in the last paragraph. aDiyEn is correcting that and resending

it.

In the last posting we discussed about the bhOgam of kAvEri. Before continuing

to discuss the bhOgam and the vaibhavam of PerumAl, let us get in to the sutram

part. ThiruppAnAzhwar was a mahAn born in the so called lower caste of the

society, the pAnar kulam in ThiruUraiyoor. He used to stand on the bank of

kAvEri and sing on the vaibhavam of PerumAl by playing veenai. Loka Saranga Muni

was the one who was performing kaimkaryam ot Srirangam PerumAl. Oneday, when he

was about to fetch the water from kAvEri for PerumAl kaimkaryam, he noticed the

Azhwar. Loka Saranga muni was born in the so called upper caste of the society.

In order to distract the Azhwar he threw a stone at him. Azhwar was still

immersed in enjoying RanganAthar. The muni did not get water from kAvEri. When

he went back to the sannidhi, the doors got closed. RanganAthar explained the

greratness of the Azhwar, and asked him to bring the Azhwar. (Please note: There

may be different versions to the story, but aDiyEn would

like to concentrate only on the sutram part and the actual anubhavam of Divya

Desam and PeumAl.). As per the order of RanganAthar, muni came back to take

Azhwar with him. Azhwar refused to step in to Srirangam, as he thought that the

place’s sanctity would be gone if he stepped into that place. Loka Saranga Muni

pleaded, and finally decided to carry ThiruppAnAzhwar on his shoulder to the

place of RanganAthar.

The speciality of this Azhwar is very unique. He was totally immersed in the

beauty of RanganAthar. He enjoyed every part of RanganAthar before finally

reaching to enjoy His eyes. He was so deeply immersed in the beauty of

RanganAthar’s eyes that he did not even want to see any other thing after that.

He did not even sing a phalasruti pAsuram at the end of his work.

‘kaattavE kaNda paatha kamalam nallaadai yunthi, thEttaru muthara pantham

thirumaar_pu kaNdam sevvaay, vaattamil kaNkaL mEni muniyERith thanipu kunthu,

paattinaal kaNdu vaazhum paaNar_thaaL paravi NnOmE’

Not everyone can see the eyes of RanganAthar. Moreover, just knowing Him itself

is not easy as mentioned by vEdAnta. ThiruppAnAzhwar was able to enjoy the

beauty of His eyes by the nirhEtuka Krupai of RanganAthar. There was another

person who got this rare opportunity. This was not because of the direct

sambanfdham with PerumAl, but by the sambandham of Swami Ramanujar. Swami

Ramanujar brought Pillai UrangAvilli (One that used to be the ThirumEni kAval

for the king) before RanaganAthar, and asked RanganAthar to show the beauty of

his eyes. Looking at the beauty of RanaganAthar’s eyes, Pillai UrangAvilli dAsar

became a sishyan of Swami Ramanujar, and started performing SriVaishnava

kaimkaryam.

If we look at this part of the sutram that we are discussing, PerumAl makes sure

that if one offends a BhaAgavatA, the same person should go and plead before

that BhAgavatA rather than PerumAl interfering in that. PerumAl wants both of

them to be with Him as both are His children. Moreover, there is no constraint

for worshipping PerumAl in terms of kulam of birth.

aDiyEn would like to mention about another mahAn before we get to enjoy the

bhOgam of PerumAl in Srirangam. He was also from pAnar kulam, and used to sing

on the most beautiful PerumAl (PerumAl's name itself proves that). The name of

the BhaktA was NampAduvAn, and the PerumAl’s name is Sundara Paripooranan. The

name of the Divya Desam is Thirukkurungudi, a beautiful vAmanA Shetram in

Pandiya nAdu.

aDiyEn,
