From the aga-nAnUru-p pADal of vuRaiyUr mudhu-kUthanAr, we can understand that 'thirumAl' is the Lord of marudha nilam also. Here, the poet compares the gardens full of devotees who visit srirangam for the 'panguni uthiram' festival and the gardens without them after they return. The gardens lose their splendour and sparkle after the devotees leave. This is compared to a 'thalai-magaL' on the verge of separation from her lover. The lines of the song is as follows: "...varu punal neri tharum iru karai pEariyARRu vuruva veN maNal murugu nARu thaN pozhil panguNi muyakkam kazhindha vazhi nAL.." The gardens that are situated on the two sides of kAviri of thiru-arangam is being mentioned in this song. There are other songs from pari-pADAl,silappadhigAram which go to prove this point. I remember AzhwAr's pAsuram "..ArAmam sUzhndha arangam" siRiya thiru-maDal in this regard. Thus, it may be seen that ;'thirumAl;' has been proclaimed the Lord of marudha-nilam also even from those ancient sangam literature period.
