Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara MunayE namaha Sri Vanachala mahA munayE namaha In the previous posting we saw that not being able to withstand the atrocities of kamsA and other asuras bhoomi piratti prostrasted brahma to protect her. Brahma then fell to the feet of emperuman to do something about this. There was one other time when brahma and the other devas surrendered to emperuman to save bhoomi piratti (mother earth). When was that? That was during the varAhAvataram. Svayanbhuva manu who was placed in the position of taking care of the srushti was astonished to find no place to keep his creations. Earth, bhoomi was submerged into the ocean. So he ran to sathyalokam and wanted to find a solution for his problem. What will brahma do? He again surrendered to emperuman who took the form of a divine varaha moorthi. Initially emperuman who was so small as a thumb then grew up very fast. Andal enjoys this roopam as “pAsitoorthu kidantha pArmagatkku pandorunAl mAsudambil neervArA mAna milA pandriyAm” Emperuman didn’t even mind to take the lowest of the lowest form (pig is considered to be a very dirty animal disliked by all) for the sake of bhoomi piratti. When he has done such a lowly avatara earlier will he ever hesitate to take KrishnAvatara as kutti kannan enjoying all pleasures in gokulam? All the devas descended to earth as gopans and gopikas to enjoy Krishna leela and waited for the same. Emperuman choose the right time and took birth in the jail of kamsan and rushed to gokulam the very first night. What was the state of the gopis who were waiting for the avatara. PeriyAzhvar says, “ooduvAr vizhuvAr vugandhAlippAr nAduvAr nambirAn enguththAr enbAr”. During the varAhAvataram after saving piratti from under the ocean emperuman did jnana upadesam to piratti. That is why varaha moorthi is adorned as jnana varahan, svetha varahan (as he took avatara as white pig and that kalpam itself is called svetha varaha kalpam) and bhoo varAhan. Kaisika puranam forms part of this upadesam only. One another important thing usually quoted as varaha moorthi’s words is the varAha charama slokam (stithE manasi susvasthE …….aham smarAmi math bhaktham nayAmi paramAm gathim) Emperuman assures all of us that if we think of him today for sure he will think of us when we are in our death beds and take us to the divine abode. Bhoomi piratti who listened to these words wanted to put it into our minds also and uplift us. Let us see how she did the same in the next posting.
