Guest guest
thiruppAvai pAsuram 18 The Everlasting Debate athuzhAi or dhEvakip pirAtti? vundhu madhakaLiRRan-- 'em-perumAnAr vugandha pAsuram' Everyone are aware that sri em-perumAnAr used to go to houses on 'vunjrvarthi' and when he reached this particular thiru-mALigai, the door opened and nambi's daughter appeared . On seeing this, sri em-perumAnAr fell at her feet. The pAsuram at that time was ' vundhu..sendhAmaraik kaiyAl ... vandhu thiRavAi.." However, there are two opnions regarding whose thiru-mALigai this is? This is periya-nambi swAmigaL's thirumALigai and the maiden was 'athuzhAi' The another view is that the thirumALigai was 'thiru-k-kOTTiyUr' nambi's and the maiden was his daughter dhEvaki pirAtti. Both the views have been prevaling. Sri puthUr swAmi with his analytical mind has given clarification on this aspect. The opinion that this is sri periya nambi's thiru-mALigai is voiced in thiruppAvai arum-padhavaurai. However, this is contrary to the following: 1. sri rAmAnuja Dhivya sarithai of When udayavar visited sri thirukkOTTiyUr nambi's thiru-mALigai, dhEvaki pirAtti -thiru-kkOTTiyUr nambi's daughter opened the door. 2. vadivazhazhagiya nambi dAsar Guruparampara praBhAvam: 3. paNNErAyirap paDi GuruparamparA prabhAvam 4. As per vArhtA-mAlai compilation, vArhtAmAlai of pin-pazhagiya perumAL jEyar- swAmi nam-piLLai's sishyar. Conclusion: Thus, since all these four voice one view and arumpadhavuria is different, these four views are more acceptable.
