All of you will be aware of the sudden natural calamity in TamilNadu, Indonesia and other parts of the world. Didn’t all our minds think “Oh! What’s life, everything has been washed out in seconds. “ We earn all our lives to live peacefully in a latter period. But does that latter period really come? Let’s now see what is living according to our beloved nAchiyar.

 

Andal calls the gopis as “vaiyaththu vAzhveergAl” that implies that there are others in this world who are “thAzhvargal” Even thondaradipodi azhvar terms those who fall into the divine feet of emperuman by controlling their senses as “vAzhum sombar” indicating all others who laze out due to tamasa gunam as “tAzhum sombar”. This is a world of failures. Can one live successfully here? Yes the Srivaishnavas who live under the shadow of emperuman live peacefully. The vyakhyanam goes as follows, “neruppu sattiyilE tAmarai poo mulaipadE! SAdanAnushtAnam pannum boomiyilE palanai anubhavikkum bhAkyasAligalE!” Have you ever heard a lotus growing on a hot plate! This world is filled with only people interested in doing something to attain something they require, but these gopis (Srivaishnavas) are enjoying their ultimate goal. They get the divine bhagavat anubhavam that has to be attained in the moksha mandalam here itself since they don’t believe in their efforts but have surrendered to the divine feet of emperuman and believe “narayananE namakkE parai tharuvAN” They may be illiterate gopis but they very clearly have the artha panchaka jnanam (para svaroopam, athma svaroopam, upaya svaroopam, upEya svaroopam and virodhi svaroopam).

 

These gopis according to Sri Andal have got the greatness, a step higher than the nithya sooris. Since in the nithya mandalam everything is perfect so the kalyana gunas of emperuman are like light in day but in this world of darkness the divine qualities of emperuman serve as light in darkness and hence it is a real credit for the gopis to have got to enjoy the bhagavat gunAnubhavam in this world. If one knows about the greatness of this enjoyment he will never opt to go to even Srivaikundam. That is why azhvars say, “achchuvai perinum vEndEn” and “kaNdakaNgal maRRondrinai kAnAvE” When chakravarthi thirumagan called even the grass and bushes in ayodhya to accompany him to Srivaikundam his close bhaktha, anjaneya refused saying, “bhAvO nAnyatra gachchathi” [my mind doesn’t enjoy even vaikundanAthan as it has got fixed with SitarAman].

 

The best birth is to be born in gokulam that too during krishnAvatara that too as a gopi and to be young like krishna and enjoy with all the other gopis the divine kalyana gunas of emperuman, feels Andal. Her father periazhvar searched for bhagavatas, “vAzhAtpattu nindreer ullErEl” but Andal didn’t have that difficulty since the whole place was filled only with “vAzhAtpattavargal”.

Many of you may ask “Was Andal born in gokulam during krishnAvatara?” No she was born only in Srivilliputtur as the daughter of periazhvar in kaliyugam. But she sang thiruppavai in anukAra bhAvam (imagination). She considered Srivilliputtur to be AypAdi, herself and all her friends to be the gopis who underwent the marghazhi nombu, the temple of vadaperunkOil udaiyAn to be the house of nandagopar and vadaperunkoiludaiyAn to be Krishna. She got so deeply immersed that even her talk reflected the edaichis. Our acharyas wonder, “bhAvaprakarshatAlE evalukku edai nadaiyum, edai mudiyum, edaipEchchum mudai nARRamum vundAyina”
