ARu malaikku edhirndhu ODum oli

Today's newspaper carries an item that Coovum and AdyAr river's mouth at the river-sea junction has become wider.

It was also reported earlier that these rivers have abosrobed the ferocity of the sea water saving the city to a large extent.

Normally, the river water enters the sea and gets dissolved in the ocean. What happens when the reverse process occurs?

The level of the sea rises and the sea water gushes into the river and forces it back into the hills.

swAmi nam-AzhwAr has picturised this when the Lord as a kUrmam carried the manthra malai on Him and with vAsuki, extracted the nectar -amudham. At this juncture, the level of the sea rose and the waters went back into the river and forced the waters back up the hills.

the import of this pAsuram is knwon more now, after this dec.26th.

"ARu -malaikku edhirndhu ODum oli,

aravuRu sulAi malai thEaikkum oli,

kaDal mARu suzhanRu azhaikkinRa oli,

appan sARu pada amudham koNda nAnREA' thriu-voi-mozhi 7-4-2;

sri peiryappangAr dhoddAchAr swAmi refers to the thiru-mozhip pAsuram

'pongu puNarik kadal sUzh ADai ..." indicating the uprising nature of the ocean.

sri ANDAL also mentions in nAchiyAr thiru-mzohi

'pongODham' indicating the nature of the ocean.

These pAsuram-s bring the nature of the violent sea.
