Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe ramanujaya Namaha Srimad Vara Vara MunayE namaha Sri Vanachala mahA munayE namaha Andal aspired for the divine darshan of krishna in various postures (lying, walking and sitting). Emperuman is bhaktha parAdeedan. He will do anything for the sake of his devotees. If he will run the chariot of arjuna and do everything as per the orders of arjuna who was filled with pride and ego what to say about these gopis who were ananya prayojanargal who considered krishna to be everything for them. They have shed their entire ego and have surrendered to the divine feet of krishna. So kannapiran started to walk towards the “seeriya singAsanam” as per the wish of andal. What should andal do now? She should enjoy his divine beauty while walking. But her state of love towards krishna is not like ours it is the ultimate love like her father periazhvar. So she started fearing if some harm will occur to this divine beauty. So her mind started to think about all past events when the lord underwent many hardships for the sake of his devotees and andal started to sing mangalasasanams, “adi pORRi, thiral pORRi, pugazh pORRi, kazhal pORRi, gunampORRI, vElpORRi” We all see in this world that only elders do AshirvAdams to those younger to them. Is it right for people younger doing mangalAsAsanams to emperuman who is the ultimate? Is mangalAsAsanam not against our svaroopa? Sri Pillai ulagariyan in his masterly work Sri Vachana bhooshanam wonderfully answers these questions with apt examples. “MangalAsAsanam svaroopa viruththamandrO vennil jnanadasaiyil rakshya rakshaka bhAvam than kappilE kidakkum prEmadasaiyil tattumArikidakkum” In general we see that at different times our behaviour with a same person may change. In the state of jnanam, we realise that emperuman is our sole rescuer and we depend on him to be protected and hence the sesha-seshi bhavam remains in our minds. But the same person when he is filled with deep devotion (bhakthi) towards the lord start to think about the lord’s welfare. Periazhvar was the greatest example. His affection towards the lord was termed as “pongum parivu” The other azhvars had parivu (concern) whereas villiputtur pattarbiran was filled with pongum parivu (deep concern) and hence he was called periazhvar. Today being swathi the thirunakshatram of periazhvar it is apt to do mangalasasanams to periazhvar. Will andal, the only daughter (“anju kudikkoru sandhadhi”) not use the right time to do mangalasasanams to emperuman, her dear krishna? That is why in this 24th paasuram, immersed in the divine beauty of walking krishna she was worried about his well-being and she sings “pORRI! pORRi!” so many times. “endrendrum vun sEvagamE Eththi parai kolvAn endru yAm vandOm erangu” (To be continued) Azhvar emperumAnAr Jeeyer thiruvadigalE sharaNam Adiyen ramanuja dAsee Sumithra Varadarajan
