Guest guest
Thiru-k-kOshtiyUr nambi-kiDAmbi AchAn Perhaps, Sri ThirukOshtiyUr nambi is the most misundertood of all the AchAryAs. Sri ThirukkOshtiyUr nambi is always correlated to Sri RamAnujA's eighteen times walking from thiruvarangam to thirukkOshtiyUr which is about 100 kms. In fact, one of fellow srEvaishNavites goes to the extent of saying ( out of devotion and affaction towards sri EmperumAnAr) one has to look for anti-magnanimous qualities in this great AchAryA Sri ThirukkOshityUr nambi. One has to realise that in those times, the value of the meanings was kept so sacred that only after testing the sincerity and dedication is the information disseminated. Anyhow, the magnanimous character of thirukkOshityUr nambi can be apparently seen from an event which took place on a summer day in the south cAuvery bank at SriRangam. Once, some miscreants, with the intention of finishing of Sri RamAnujA poisoned the food to be cooked for him. On hearing this, Sri ThirukkOshtiyUr nmabi rushed to SriRangam. Udayavar went along with his sishyAs to welcome his AchAryan trowards the south bank of the river. It was a sunny aftenoon of summer. The heat was at its peak. The river sand being a good conductor of heat, was burning due to this. Sri RamAnujA fell fully flat unto his AchAryAn's feet on the hot sand. The physique reddened on bracing with the heat. However, the AchAryan never commanded the disciple to get up. Seconds became minutes and the body was tormenrted by the heat. Sri kiDAmbi AchAn, one of the disciple of Sri RAmAnujA, immediartely questioned the intentions of Sri ThirukkOshtiyUr nambi and he took up udyavar on himself and he lay on the sands saving udayavar from the falling heat. Sri ThirukkOshtiyUr nambi, now opened his mouth. " I am looking for a great person like you, one whose prime intention is to take care of Sri RAmAnujAs health and welfare, one who does not hestiate to place in the forefront the importance of nurturing AchAryAs physique. You are the right person. Hereinafter, you may cook food for Sri EmperumAnAr and serve him" were his words. The large heartedness of nambi in rushing to SriRangam and devising a strategy to find out the right person for the right job. In the process the greatness of Sri kiDambi AchAn came up. Does it not show that Sri ThirukkOshtiyUr nambi's is not a stone hearted soul but a lion hearted one and a large hearted one. dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan
