Guest guest
SEr -PeriyAzhwAr Perhaps, the term Azhwar is most appropriate to Sri PeriyAzhwAr. That this term represents the apostles of the Lord getting submerged knee deep into His auspicious qualities, is well known. It is observed that wherever Sri PeriyAzhwAr touches upon this word 'sEr', the auspicous qualities of EmperumAn is again and again reiterated. Honestly speaking, this is no exaggeration.Absoulte truth. A few illustrations from his PeriyAzhwAr ThiruMozhi I Even as a child and describing the birth of Lord KrshNA Sri PeriyAzhwAr identifies the qualities 'pAyach sErudai paNbudaip pAlakan' 1-1-7; II The Lord has several qulaities but Sri PeriyAzhwAr finds the attribute of EmperumAn wonderfully flexible for the sake of devotees as great. This he describes as the quality adorning EmperumAn. 'sEr-aNindha senkaN mAl mEal senRa sindhai peruvar thAmEa' 2-3-11; III Talking of the Lord's kalyANa guNam of being going to any level for the sake of devotees, Lord's KrshNA taking upon Himself the task of emissary and going as a messenger towards the duryOdhAna-s is indeed commendable. This is appositely coined as 'sEr onRu dhUthAi dhuriyOdhanan pakkal..' 2-6-5; IV ThirumAlirumsolai is immediately correlated to silambARu. PeriyAzhwAr mentions the divine angels take bath in this sacred river. Well, this river has the attribute of cleasning the sins and they descend to earth to remove their problems. and that is .. sEr silambARu pAyum thirumAl irumsOlai'4-2-1; V Well just not appreciating the qualities of the Lord and the sacred river Sri PeriyAzhwAr even while detracting himself from his forte of ' cherishing Lord krshNa' does not forget this quality of appreciting quality and while describing Sri RamAyaNam in ten verses honours ThriuvaDi with this good term 'sEr ARum thiRal anuman' 2-10-10 and here sri PeriyA jEyar vyAkyAnam is a must to be read '..gnAnAdhi guNangaLilEa paripUrNanAi', that is- one who is complete in the qualities of knowledge and related auspicious qulities. VI PeriyAzhwAr advises one and all to name their children to that of the Lord's. In the sum up He names the Lord as a cumulation of good qulaities as 'sEr aNi mAl thirunamam' 4-6-10; VII It is not that our AzhwAr just talks but proves it by precedence. Yes, he mentions that the person who is delegated the job of creation -brahmA and the one who is delegated of destruction rudhRa , eulogise EmperumAn with words that are dense with auspicious qualities These are the words that become words of attributes '..nEla kaNDanum, nAnmuganum muRaiyAl sEr- yEARu vAsagam seyya ninRa thirumAl' 4-1-5; And so are our PeriyazhwAr words and that is why it is said 'vuNDoA PeriyAzhwArkku opporuvar?' dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan
