ayarvendRa teerppAnpEr pAdi-seyalteera

 

sindhiththu vAzhvArE vAzhvAr sirusamayap

 

pandhanaiyAr vAzhvEl pazhudhu"

 

Azhvar continues to articulate the activities of the lord for the sake of the helpless sharanagathas.

 

 

(vuyirkoNdu vudalozhiya OdumpOdhu)

When the athma sheds this body and starts its journey as dictated by the yama dhoothas

 

(Odi) Emperuman comes running to save the prapannas.

Instead of sending Vishnu dhoothas to do the job ('Al vaiththu andi thozhAdhE' says PVP that is instead of appointing a person for doing sandhya vandhanam) emperuman himself rushes to rescue the bhagavathas and gives them a soothing effect by his very darshan for all the hardships undergone so far.

 

 

(ayarvendRa teerppAn) He confiscates all the hardships undergone by the jeeva under the clutches of the yama dhoothas.

When compared to this all other sufferings in this world are like small pebbles.

 

(teerppAn pEr pAdi) extol the names of that divine lord who removes all our worries.

 

 

(seyal teera sindhiththu vAzhvArE vAzhvAr) Those who disagree to do all those so called upayas and believe him alone to be the sole upaya are supposed to be living.

They are the ones who are blessed.

Thondaradipodi azhvar crowns such people who shed all other ways and consider the lord who runs to rescue them from the clutches of yama dhoothas as the only upaya as 'kadaithalaiyirundhu vAzhum sOmbar' [Thirumaalai 38]

 

After talking elaborately the greatness of akinchanas (helpless surrendered devotees) azhvar now proceeds to abuse the sakinchanas (those who believe in their own efforts)

 

 

(sirusamayap pandhanaiyAr vAzhvEl pazhudhu) upayas like karma, jnana, bhakthi yogas demand practicing with high precision for many janmas and are very difficult to practice.

Instead of making our way easy they complicate the same by building ego in us against our svaroopa. The final result being the extension of our stay in samsara. That is why azhvar calls them 'siru samayam' they are cheap when compared to 'parayaNam narayaNam' Ultimate way-narayana.

 

 

(samayap pandhanai) 'neRi kAttineekudhiyO' (Periya thiruvandhadhi-6)

 

Though they are also mokshOpayas still they keep the jeeva away from bhagavat vishayam for a long period and trap him into samsara.

 

 

(vAzhvEl pazhudhu) On analyzing, these upayas are actually fruitless.
