Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha Just quoting from what you have written: ============================== ===========Start quote ============= > AtharvaNa vEdam prescribes this rule. Sage MarichI > states that for a 4 inch tall PuNDram , the gap between > the two legs should be 2 inches . BhagavAn states that > a person , who provides that interspace is dear to Him. > It is at that space that the Lord resides with SrI Devi. ===========End quote ============= The three shapes in question are shown below, let us see which will Satisfy the above as quoted by you. Vadakalai wear: the U or V Thenkalai wear the: || || || || || || This bottom part denotes, Acharya Sambhandam until Ramanuja's time Vaishnavas would chant their Acharya's name while applying the bottom pada (on the Nose). After Bhagawath Ramanua's time, it is common to see devotees chant Srimahte Ramanujaya Namaha, instead of thier current Acharyan. (This used to be followed by all until 16th Century, based on the oldest statue/ inscription found with the Thiruman Shape) or this quote again by you: =================== > AtharvaNa vEda has a passage named " HarE: PaadhAkruthi " . > Swamy Desikan based his assessment about the shape of > the Urdhva-puNDram on this vachanam(i-e)., the shape > of the Urdhva-puNDram should be like the Lord's Thiruvadi > (Sacred feet when He is lying down): bent at the edge , > projecting upward and slightly broad (SaamudhrikA lakshaNam). adiyEn is glad that you all agree now, that it is both the feet of the lord is depicated and not just one foot. (CharanaO Sharanam prapadyE) This quote by you is very Ingenuous ================================= > Latter day practises of having a lotus with its stalk > holding the two paadhams has not been sanctioned > by any sAsthrams either. ================================= Perhaps you know more than Swmai Desikan himself, or maybe you know all the sAsthrams to make an educated judgement on this. In adiyEn's humble opinion: First we have to accept that we know very limited of the Sashtras, and much less to pass judgement on others. ================================= Sadagopan mama, i am not able to see the purpose or motivation behind that post mentioning the shape. I am sure you understand that when we see your incorrect information, we just have to put out the info as we have have learnt it with pramanas. If you are still interested, adiyEn can quote from Swami Desikan's work, that specifically talks about the Thankalai Thiruman as the the way to adorn it. Again adiyEn will use Swami Desikan's work, as that is the one pramana you might accept. azhwAr emperumAnAr JeeyAr thiruvadigalE sharanam adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Mukundan Vangkipuram Pattangi http://www.radioramanuja.com
