Guest guest
SrI: Dear Sri Sudarshan: In response to your query (Attached at the end of my response) , here aremy inputs. Given His modest way of life , there are many things about Swamy Desikan's life that are missing . One such time period is his stay in KarnAtaka after the apachAram by KanthAdai LakshmaNAcchAr's sishyan at SrIrangam. SrIman SatakOpa TatachAr Swamy of Thuppul Sannidhi might have some information related to your question. The other devotee is Smt.Nagu Satyan , who is helping with the reconstruction/repair at Swamy Desikan's sannidhi at SatyaakAlam at the request of HH SrI RangapriyA Swamy of Karnataka. The parakAla matam sishyAs also might have specific information. Let me summarize what I am familiar with from AchArya Vaibhavam descriptions. The available information is that the KumArar,Devigal of Swamy Desikan and PeraruLALa Jeeyar ( His prime disciple) were with Swamy Desikan at SathyAkAlam/Sathyamangalam on the bank of Cauvery river with the now historic temple for Lord VaradarAja. During this self-imposed exile at Sathyamangalam Swamy Desikan had a great urge to have Lord RanganAthA's sevai at Srirangam. It was like Swamy ParAsara Bhattar's desire to have the Sevai of the Lord of SrIrangam , while he was an a self-imposed exile at ThirukkOshtiyUr. This was before the invasion of the Srirangam Temple. Swamy Desikan left His Devikal and KumAran at SathyAkAlam/Sathyamangalam and went to SrIrangam with PeraruLALa Jeeyar and had the blissful anubhavam of peforming MangaLAsAsanam of the Lord of SrIrangam with Sudarsana Bhattar and PiLLai LokAcchAr. There at Srirangam , a great scholar challenged Swamy Desikan for a debate . Swamy Desikan suggested that PeraruLALa Jeeyar should debate with the haughty vidhvAn . PeraruLALa Jeeyar accepted his AchAryan's niyamanam on head (sirasA Vahitthu) and engaged that VidvAn in three days of debate and won over him with the help of Swamy Desikan's granthams like Satha DhUshaNi.PeraruLALa Jeeyar returned to the sannidhi of his AchAryan and described the way in which the debate went. Swamy Desikan was so pleased with the debating skills and the scholarship of his sishyar that he awarded the title of Brahma Tantra Svathanthra Jeeyar . Sudarsana Bhattar was there in that assembly and was very happy about the honor accorded to PeraruLALa Jeeyar .There was planted the seeds of ParakAla matam at SrIrangam. This was also the time of the foreign invasion at SrIrangam. The preparations to create a stone barrier to hide the Moola BhEram , the subsequent atrocities at SrIrangam by the invading troops , the request of Sudarsana Bhattar to Swamy Desikan to protect Srutha prakAsikai and his two sons , all of this took place while Swamy Desikan was still at SrIrangam and His family was at Sathyamangalam. Soon Sudarsana Bhattar was killed duirng the invasion at the temple. Swamy hid amongst the plie of corpses on ground with the Srutha PrakAsikai and the two sons of Bhattar. After night fall , Swamy Desikan freed himself and started his journey back to Sathyamangalam with the rare treatise of Srutha PrakAsikai and the two young sons of Sudarsana Bhattar. During these chaotic hours , Brahma Tantra Svatantra Jeeyar was separated from his AchAryan and was at a loss to find his AchAryan and as he wandered back, he met Swamy Desikan on the way by accident and both returned to Sathyamangalam. From Sathyamangalam , Swamy Desikan and family moved to ThirunArAyaNapuram and the Lord there blessed KumAra VaradAchAr to be the RaamAnuja SampradhAyaka Pravarthakar after Swamy Desikan's ascent to SrI Vaikuntam. The Taniyan , " RaamAnuja DayApAthram " took birth here at ThirunArAyanapuram . The year was BahudhAnya and the Month was AavaNi. That Taniyan is used by all those who start their Bahgavath Vishaya KaalakshEpam. The famous AbhIthi Sthavam was composed by Swamy Desikan at ThirunArAyanapuram with prayers for return of SrI RanganAtha back to His aasthAnam at SrIrangam. SrI RangarAjan returned soon after from Thirumala via Chenji and the nithya , paksha Uthsavams began at SrIrangam. Swamy heard about this auspicious news and returned to SrIRangam from Karnataka. Swamy Desikan returned with His family and took up permanent residence at SrIrangam . During this stage of His life , SrImad Rahasya Thraya Saaram and VirOdha ParihAram were created by Swamy Desikan. It will be wonderful to hear additional specifics from our family of SrI VaishNavAs from Karnaataka about the time of stay of Swamy Desikan at Sathyamangalam.
