Guest guest
SvabhAnu Vrushabha Maasam, Sukla paksha DhvAdasi Hari Vaasaram , June 11,2003 SrI: Dear BhakthAs : Tomorrow is Swamy NammAzhwAr's avathAra Dinam (birth day).Tomorrow is also MahA pradhOsham day dear to Sri Narasimha Bhagavan dear to Swamy NammazhwAr.MalOlan ( " aaham sEr NarasingamAhi , ohr aaham valluhirAl piLanthAnuRai maaha vaikuntham " ) is at ThirukkuruhUr with asmath AchAryan , SrImad Azhagiya Singar for the annual visit on this day. Tomorrow would be the VaikAsi VisAkam day , the sacred birth day of our dearest AzhwAr , who is saluted as " arumaRaikaL anthAdhi seythAn " ( One who set the esoteric and precious Vedic texts in the poetry style of anthAdhi). AnthAdhi style uses the last word of one verse(Paasuram) as the beginning word of the subsequent paasuram. Tomorrow is the birthday deserving special celebration for Yenthai SaThakOpan , who blesses posterity with " Tamizh MaRaikaL aayiram " ( The thousand verses distilling the essence of Sanskrit Vedams in the language of Tamil to make it easy for every one to comprehend them effortlessly). Tomororw is the birthday of the AzhwAr , who was saluted by His disciple , Swamy Nathamuni as: " bhakthAmrutham visva-janAnumOdhanam SarvArTadham SrI SaThakOpa Vaangmayam Sahsra saakhOpanishad samAgamam namAmyaham DhrAvida vEda saagaram " " adiyEn salutes that Ocean of Tamil Vedam , who blessed us with the dhivya prabhandham revered as ThiruvAimozhi, which is like the nectar to BhakthAs of SrIman NaarAyana and is welcomed and relished by all ; it houses all the esoteric meanings of the three rahasyams , and is inertwined tightly with the thousand upanishads. adiyEn prostrates before those auspicious utterances of SrI SaThakOpan , the veritable ocean of Tamizh Vedams " . During this sacred occasion , let us enjoy the eleven pasurams of the Tenth centum dedicated to ThirmOhUr PerumAL , SrI KaaLamEgan and His two Devis, Sri ThirumOhUr Valli and Megavalli . This is the set of Paasurams starting with " Taala thAmarai taDamaNi Vayal ThirumOhUr " . They have a special significance in the hierarchy of ThiruvAimozhi. The Dhivya Desam of ThirumOhUr ******************************* ThirumOhUr is located approximately at a distance of 7 miles from the busy metropolis of Tenn Mathurai, which was the ancient capital of the PaaNDyA Kings. Here the Lord has the ArchA Form with the name of " KaaLamEghan " . This Mega perumAl has Megavalli and ThirumOhUr valli as ubhaya NaacchimArs .He has recieved 11 paasurams from Swamy NammAzhwAr and one Paasuram from Thirumangai AzhwAr.The Dhivya Dampathis are resting here under the shade of Kethaki VimAnam on the banks of KsheerAbdhi PushkaraNi. The context of the ThirumOhUr Paasurams **************************************** In the previous decad ( ThiruvAimozhi 9.10), Swamy NammazhwAr was performing MangaLAsAsanam for ThirukkaNNapuram PerumAl . During that dialog , Our dear AzhwAr got the message that His Lord was going to grant him soon the residence at His supreme abode of SrI Vaikuntham for performing nithya kaimkaryam there. The joyous AzhwAr shared this much awaited message with all bhakthAs to motivated them for performing SaraNAgathy at the sacred feet of the SarvalOka SaraNyan so that they will all be assured of the boon of Moksham at the end of their earthly lives: " SaraNamAhum TanatAL adainthArkkellAm maraNamAnAl Vaikuntham kodukkum PirAn aranamaintha mathiL soozh ThirukkaNNapurat- taraNiyALan , TanatanbharkanbAhumE " --ThiruvAimozhi: 9.10.5 (Meaning): Bhakthi Yogam requires certain difficult conditions to be met by the practioner , which are well nigh impossible to fulfill by most of You . Please do not worry however over this difficut means/upAyam to gain Moksham. Please listen to me carefully. There is another easier way. The Lord blesses the supreme boon of residence in His Vaikuntham for all of those , who have performed SaraNAgathy at His sacred feet. This he does as and when the Prapannan shakes his mortal coils .This Lord of all the lOkams residing permanently at the dhivya desam of ThirukkaNNapuram known for its strong ramparts will defenitely grant this boon to His prapannAs as revealed by adiyEn.If you ask me why He does this , I can only say that He is the embodiment of Devotion to those , who display steadfast devotion to Him .He is SaraNAgatha Vathsalan and His vaathsalyam for those , who surrenderd to Him is matchless. Swamy NammAzhwAr's Mood and Need ********************************** Our AzhwAr is ecstatic now over his own prospect of travelling to SrI Vaikuntam. He becomes ready to bid farewell to EmperumAns of few dhivya dEsams just as a newly wedded girl , who is about to travel to her husband's house goes around to say goodbye to long time friends and relatives. Our AzhwAr is also in a great hurry to reach " her " Lord's house , the Supreme abode of SrI Vaikuntam. Prabhandham of ThiruvAimozhi is arriving rapidly to a conclusion . Our AzhwAr commences this final decad in that spirit of joyous anticipation of travel by archirAdhi maargam and dhvarai9haste). He is also somewhat concerned about the need for suitable companionship during this sweet but long journey of his aathmA to SrI Vaikuntam. He wonders as to who could be that trusted companion during this charama (final) journey , the journey that he was longing for. He concluded that the Lord of ThirumOhUr is the right One ( " TanjamAhiya Tanthai ThAyodu thAnumAi " / the One who combines in Himself the role of Father and Mother for the PrapannAs). He starts the journey to srI Vaikuntam now with the Lord of ThirumOhUr leading the way. This is the context of the birth of these ThirumOhUr Paasurams.
