Sixth Paasuram

Talai mElE tALINaihaL thAmaraikkaNN yennAmmAn

nilai pErAn yennenjatthu yeppozhuthum YemperumAn

mAlaimadattharavaNai mEl VaattARRAn , madha mikka

kolai yAnai maruppositthAn kurai kazhalkaL kuruhinamE

 

My Lord has not only placed His sacred feet on

my head but this Lord of VaattARu has migled and stays with

all my karmEndhriyams and Jn~AnEndhriyams. He has united

His lotus red eyes with my eyes and facilitats me to

view the ArchirAdhi maargam. He gives me courage by

staying steadily in my mind forever. He lets me hear

the SunAdham of His ankle bells , which rang during

the occasion of His destruction of the royal elephant of

KuvAlayapeetam at Kamsan's court.Thus , He is united with

every one of my indhriyams with affection and celebrates

that aanandhAnubhavam.

 

In this Paasuram , the choice of words " Maalai MaadattharavaNai

mEl VaattARRAn " describes step by step the beauty of the Temple

of Adhi Kesavan and the beauty of Adhi Seshan on whom the Sundara

Purushan , Adhi Kesavan is reclining .

 

Seventh Paasuram

kuraikazhalkaL kuRuhinam nangOvindhan kudi koNDAn

thiraikuzhuvu kadl puDaisoozh tennAttut-tilathamanna

varaikuzhuvum maNimAda VaattARRAn malaradimEl

viraikuzhuvum naRumtuLavam meyninRu kamazhumE

 

The sunAdham of ankle bells of the Lord continues to

resound in adiyEn's ears. It is clear that He is rushing

towards me. Our Govindhan has now arrived and occupied with

His family adiyEn's mind and made it His residence.

The fragrance of the TuLasi garlands of that Sarvagandhan

shining as the Tilakam for the southern direction has

entered in to my body and is spreading that TuLasi fragrance

all around.adiyEn has attained the samslEsha BhAgaym

(union with my Lord) at all levels .

 

Eighth Paasuram

meyninRu kamazhtuLava virayERu Thirumudiyan

kaininRa chakkaratthan karuthumidam poruthu punal

maininRa varai pOlum Thiruvuruva VaattARARkku

yennanRi seythaEnA yennenjil thihashvathuvE?

 

adiyEn is " seelamillA siRiyOn " . How did this visEsha

anugraham of samslEsham with the Lord happen? adiyEn

does not know how to account for this great blessing of

the Lord for this magnificent act of His. What kind of

help can adiyEn give to this great Lord , who rushes

everywhere for protecting His bhakth janams with chakram

on hand and His TuLasi fragrance preceding Him? adiyEn

does not know the reason for this mahA bhAgyam enjoyed

by me.He stays with His well-implanted feet in my mind.

What a singular honor it is for Him to choose my mind as

His abode with His grandeur, loftiness and soundharyam!

 

Ninth Paasuram:

Thihazhinra thirumArbil Thirmangai tannOdum

Thihazhinra ThirumAlAr sErvidam taNN VaattARu

puhazhninRa puLLUrthi pErarakkar kulam kedutthAn

ihazhvinRi yennenjattheppozhuthum piriyAnE

 

It is not that the Lord of ThiruvAttARu alone took up

residence in my heart but He came with His dear Lady,

who is the cuase of His Isvayam. She is perenially present

in His heart.He asked His AravindhappAvai (lotus lady)

to be with Him .

 

THis Lord of ThiruvAttARu is the YajamAnan of the valorous

bird , Garudan, who destroys the Lord's enemies. He came

with Garudan also and occupied my nenju. My Lord did not

reject my nenju as an inappropriate place for His residence.

He entered and stays there as though He can not sustain His

existence without this mind of mine!

 

Tenth Paasuram

piriyAthAtccheyyenRu piRappaRutthAL aRakkoNDAn

AriyAhi IraNiyanai aaham koNDan anRu

periyArkkAtpattakkAl peRAtha payan peRumARu

varivAL vaay aravanai mEl vAATTarraN KAATTINaNe

 

That Lord saluted as " VedAhamEtham Purusham mahAntham "

by the VedAs blesses all those , who seek His refuge

and elevates them. Oh People! Please seek Him , perform

SaraNAgathi unto Him and be blessed with all boons !

The Lord of ThiruvAttARu has united with me forever and

has commanded me to perform Kaimkaryams for Him .He reminded

adiyEn of the ChaandhOgya Vaakyams:

 

" Sa khalvEvam varthayan yAvadhAyusham BrahmalOkam

abhisampadhyathE na cha punarAvarthathE , na cha

punarAvarthathE "

 

Not once but twice , He repeated that those who have

attained His Supreme abode does not return to this

samsAric world again.

 

My Lord of ThiruvAttARu proved His words uttered in

His Upadesam to ArjunA in Geethai in my case :

 

maamupEthya Punarjanma dukhAlayam asAsvatham

nApnuvanthi mahAthmana: samsiddhim parmAm gathA:

aabrahmabhuvanAllOkA: punarAvarthinOrjuna

maamupEthya thu KounthEya punarjanmA na vidhyathE

 

--SrImath Bhagavath Geethai: 8.15-16

 

Those who performed saraNAgathi unto Me will never

ever return to this ocean of misery, this SamsAra

MaNDalam. They wont have anymore births and deaths

hereafter.They will stay at My supreme abode performing

kaimkaryams to Me and enjoy that permanent bliss.

 

Swamy NammAzhwAr says here that the Lord has taught

him ananyArha sEshathvam ( unalloyed devotion to Him

as His sEshan ).He made me the recipient of the great

honor and undreamable fruits . This most generous act

of His is appropriate for His greatness and ParamOdhara

attribute. He has driven away my internal and external

enemies. He has taught the lesson of NrusimhAvatharam

to me and endeared me to Him as the MahA Purushan , who

comes to the rescue of those like PrahlAdhan seeking

His protection.He never lets them down.adiyEn does not

deserve this honor. adiyEn did not do anything to earn it.

Perhaps ,He is honoring me for the Vaachaka kaimkaryam

of singing the Paasurams of ThiruvAimozhi!

 

Eleventh Paasuram

kAttit-tann kanai-kazhalkaL kadunaraham puhalozhittha

VaattARRemperumAnai vaLam KuruhUr SaThakOpan

pAttAya Tamizh maalai aayiratthuLL ipatthum

kEttu , aarAr vaanavarkaL sevikkiniya senjcchollE

 

My Lord of ThiruvAttARu blessed me to enjoy His

Dhivya MangaLa vigraham. He showed me His nectarine

ThiruvadikaL and enabled me to hear the sweet sounding

ankle bells associated with them.He freed me from the SamsAra

Dukkhams. These ten paasurams about the Lord of ThiruvAttARu

are sweet to hear and sing and have depths of meanings.

Even the Nithyasooris would be thrilled to hear just

one of these paasurams.Once they hear one , they may long

to hear more since they could not contain themselves.

Nanjeeyar commented that the Nithyasooris would enhance

their kaimkaryams to their Lord after hearing these

ten Paasurams and will become " Vithrushnars " .

 

May we recite these ThiruvAttARu Paasrurams of

SaThakOpan , which will confer on us the MahA

Isvaryam of Nithya Kaimkaryam to the Dhivya Dampathis

at their Supreme abode !
