Dear Swamy Desika BhakthAs:

 

Our ParamAchAryan , who fortified the Bhagavath RaamAnuja SiddhAntham

was born during PurattAsi SravaNam of the year 1268 CE at ThUppul agraharam .

He was given the name of the Lord of Thirumalai, VenkatanATan since both

share PurattAsi SravaNam for their birth days.

 

During this SvabhAnu Year , we will be celebrating the 736th birthday at

ThUppul/Kaanchipuram , ThiruvahIndhrapuram and wherever His dhivya MangaLa

vigraham is consecrated on October 5 .

 

In preparation for the celebration of this year's Thirunakshathra Uthsavam , adiyEn

wishes to write a series of articles on His Vaibhavam leading up to the Translations on

Desika Prabhandham . The structure of these postings would have the following order

The great Ubhaya VedAntha Scholar , Vangipuram Navaneetham SrIrama DesikAcchAr Swamy was adiyEn's next door neighbor in

Oppiliappan Sannidhi AgrahAram . His son Sri V.N.Gopala Desikan ,

the only son of Sri SrIrama DesikAcchAr Swamy , is my classmate.

Swamy was my First AchAryan . adiyEn recalls in great detail

the bent head of Swamy writing on the many granthams ( SrImad

Rahasya Thraya Saaram, ChillaRai Rahasyangal, Swamy Desikan's

sthOthrams and Desika Prabhandham ) each time adiyEn stopped by

to talk to my class mate.It is adiyEn's bhAgyam to translate now

SrI SrIrAma DesikAcchAr's master pieces in to English . adiyEn's

prayers are to Swamy Desikan to bless this Kaimkaryam.

 

Prior to start of this series , adiyEn wishes to invite your attention to

a rare festival, which is being started after 50 year's lapse. adiyEn

is referring to the October 10-11 PuRappAdu of Thru EvvuL VeerarAghava

PerumAL to Visit with Swamy Desikan at His sannidhi at SrIperumbhUthUr.

PerumAl starts from His aasthAnam at 10 P.M on the night of

October 10 and travels all the 17 miles from there to SrI PerumbhUthUr

and arirves there at 5 A.M next morning . There Swamy Desikan will

be wiating for His Lord's arrival with PoorNa Kumbham along with

SrImath Azhagiya Singar. Together , both PerumAL and Swamy Desikan

with the assembled Bhaktha Kotis will reach SrI matam and enjoy during

the day KshEma TaLigai , Thirumanjanam , Veedhi PuRappAdu and

Periya SaaRRumurai . PerumAL will arrive with Souri adorning His

Thirumukha MaNDalam and during the day will sport SikkuthAdai

alankAram for His KesabhAram.Those who have the good fortune

of accompanying the Lord with Veda PaarAyaNam and Swamy

Desika SthOthra Paatams on anuyAthrai that day are truly blessed.
