Thiruppukkuzhi Swamy's 181st Thirunakshathram celebrations (Nov 13-16): Part III

It is marvellous to hear the good news about the grand celebrations

at TaarAmaNi ( a suburb of Chennai ?) for the Thirunakshathram of

the MahAn , VaikuntavAsi Thirupukkuzhi Swamy .

 

I would like to brief you on another important aspect of the celebrations

at Kaanchipuram at Thiruppukkuzhi Swamy's aasramam at

Sri RangarAja Veedhi , where Swamy lived during his jeeva dasai and

performed KaalakshEpams and is being used by his sishyAs even today.

SrI RangarAja Veedhi is known for TWO main things:

 

1. ThirukkuruhaipirAn PiLLAn's Sannidhi , where you can

have the darsana soubhAgyam of the archA vigrahams of

Swamy Nathamuni , SrI Periya Thirumalai Nambi , Sri PiLLAn ,

SrI Panchamatha Bhanjana Taata Desikan , who was originally

a sishyar of HH Shad Paraankusa Desikan ( the 6th pontiff of

AhObila Matam).This Ahobila Matam AchAryan is peforming

AaarAdhanam even today to at Ahobilam to SrI Lakshmi

Nrusimhan in a cave in Ahobilam.

 

2. Thiruppukkuzhi Swamy's Aasramam with the archA vigraham of

Swamy Desikan , the AarAdhana Moorthy of TPK Swamy .

In addition to that sacred vigraham , the archais of SrI HayagrIvan,

SrI Lakshmi Nrusimhan , SrI SeethA LakshmaNa SamEtha

SrI Raamachandran , Swamy NammAzhwAr and BhAshyakArar

are at this Aasramam .It will not be an exaggeration to say that Our

whole Guru Paramparai down to Swamy Desikan is right there

in this Aasramam .

 

It is at this Aasramam , the Kaanchi part of the Celebrations of

TPK SWamy's 181st Thirunakshathram will be conducted from

Nov 13-16 .SrIman P.V.SatakOpa TatachAr Swamy has taken

Why we should celebrate TPK Swamy's Vaibhavam at many places ?

The celebrations for such a MahAn should be done at as many places

as possible and particularly at places where ever there are Swamy

Desika BhakthAs . Any one who has crossed the gopura vaasal of

Kanchi VaradarAja PerumAL Temple and Thondaradippodi Vaasal ,

or any one who has climbed up the steps of Hasthi Giri to have

the darsana soubhAgyam of Lord VaradarAjAn or any one who has

visited the Sannidhi of Swamy Desikan at Thuppul or any one

who has participated in the grand MangaLAsAsanam of

Swamy Desikan on His Thirunakshathram day at Hasthigiri

will have to remember with gratitude the MahOpakAram of

Thirupukkuzhi Swamy , whose 181st Thirunakshathram is being

celebrated BOTH AT TAARAAMANI AND KAANCHIPURAM

during the Nov 13-16 , 2003 time frame.

 

We are planning to celebrate the 181st Thirunakshathram at

Lord RanganAthA's temple at Pomona , NY with the recitation

of Swamy Desikan's Sahasra Naamams created by Thirukkudanthi

Desikan and a special arcahnai on that day for Swamy Desikan.

 

(1)Thiruppukkuzhi Swamy was the Mudhal TheerthakArar in recognition of

his life long services to SrI MahA Devi SamEtha VaradarAja PerumAL

and Swamy Desikan , the Kula Mani of Thuppul .He was the nirvAhakar

of the day to day affairs at Lord VaradarAjaa's temple for many years.

 

(2) At Kaanchipuram , the seat of Thirupuukkuzhi Swamy

(TPK Swamy ) is the one of the most important centres of

VisishtAdhvaitham and VaishNavite AchAryAs from Swamy

Naatha Muni to the present day AchAryAs . Let us follow

the happenings over 1200 years at PerumAL Koil in the context of

the Thirunakshathram celebrations for TPK Swamy .

 

The Location for the Kaanchi Celebration

The celebrations at Kaanchi will take place at TPK Swamy's

aasramam in SrI RangarAja Veedhi in front of the AarAdhana

Moorthy of TPK Swamy, Swamy Desikan . This is where future

stalwarts in VisishtAdhvaitha SiddhAntham were trained by

SrI TPK Swamy.

 

Chathur Veda ParAyaNam , Dhivya Prabhandha GhOshti

and small vidvath sathas and TadhiyArAdhanam will take place

during Nov 13-16 at the Aasramam of TPK Swamy .

 

Just as the reunion of Swamy Desikan at SrI PerumbhUthur

with ThiruveLLUr EmperumAn took place on Oct 11 after a lapse of 55

years( last reunion was in 1948 ) , this Thirunakshathra Uthsavam

will take place 60 years after the last round of celebrations at Kaanchi ,

when the 121st anniversary of TPK Swamy 's Thirunakshathram was

celebrated in the year 1943 by Swamy Desika BhakthAs and

AbhimAnis at Kaanchipuram . Hope all of you who are fortunate

will attend the Uthsavams BOTH at Kaanchi or TaarAmaNi

and support the organizers of these Uthsavams .

 

WE WILL REFLECT ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF KAANCHIPURAM AS

THE VENUE FOR TPK SWAMY'S THIRD SHASTHIYABDHA POORTHI

FURTHER :

 

The main reason is that Swamy's entire life was spent at Kaanchi,

the dhivya dEsam which lent AchArya RaamAnujA , KooratthAzhwAn ,

Swamy Desikan and other AchAryAs to Lord RanganAtha for the growth

of our Darsanam. Lord VaradarAjan is indeed the most generous one

when it comes to granting boons even to Lord RanganAthan.

 

Swamy Naathamuni & Kaanchi

It was at Kaanchipuram that Swamy Naathamuni had the command

(niyamanam) to spread the Dhivya Prabhandhams of AlwArs to spread

the doctrines of SrI VaishNavam . Swamy Naatha Muni went on to

Thirukkudanthai and AzhwAr Thirunagari to be initiated by Swamy

NammAzhwAr Himself to carry out the assigned mission by Kaanchi

DevAthi Raajan .

 

Swamy AaLavanthAr

It was at Kaanchi that Swamy AaLavanthAr , the grandson

of Swamy Naatha Muni fulfilled the wishes of His grandfather,

who in Yoga Dasai knew about the birth of RaamAnujar at

SrI PerumbhUthUr to grow the darsanam developed by him .

His sishya Paramparais left that task to Swamy AaLavanthAr.

From SrIrangam came Swamy AlavanthAr to Kaanchi PeraruLALan's

Sannidhi , performed SaraNAgathy at the feet of the Lord and

prayed for the ascendance of RaamAnujA to the AchArya

Peetam and flfill his three wishes : (1) writing a commentary for

Brahma Soothrams based on Sage BhOdhayanA's vrutthi

(2) VyAkhyAnam for Swamy NammAzhwAr's ThiruvAimozhi

and (3) expression of gratitude to Sage ParAsarar and VyAsar

through naming of sons of AchAryAs with those names.

Lord VaradarAjan granted those requested boons form Swamy

AlavanthAr and the rest is VaishNavite history.

 

Kaanchi & AchArya RaamAnujA

It was here at Kaanchi PerumAL Koil prAkAram RaamAnujA

as a kumAran learnt poorva paksham from Yaadhava PrakAsar(YP)

and debated him and ultimately accepted YP's pleadings to

accept him as His( AchArya RaamAnujA's) sishyan.

 

It was here AchArya RaamAnujA was brought from VindhyA

forests overnight by the dhivya dampathis of Kaanchi taking

the form of a hunter and his wife . It was here the Divine couple

accpted Theertha Kaimakryam from RaamAnujA from the way side

well. It was here Thirukkacchi Nambi revealed the six responses

from the Lord of Hasthi Giri to RaamAnujA's six questions.

It was here AchArya RaamAnuja accepted SanyAsAsramam

in front of PeraruLALan.

 

Kaanchi & KooratthAzhwAn

It was near here KooratthAzhwAn took birth to help AchArya

RaamAnujA write SrI BhAshyam ( One of the prayers of

Swamy AaLavanthAr and KooratthAzhwAn's children were

named Parasara Bhattar and VyAsa Bhattar at Srirangam

in response to the second longing of Swamy AaLavanthAr.

It was here that KooratthAzhwAn stood before Lord VaradarAjan

and composed the 102 slOkams of SrI VaradarAja Sathakam

and was blessed to regain his eye sight by the Lord of Hasthigiri.

 

NadAthUr AmmAl & Kaanchi

It was here NadAthur AmmAl was born and served the Lord of

Kaanchi . He conducted his KaalakshEpams and trained

a series of great AchAryaas like Sudarsana Suri , AathrEya

RaamAnujA ( the AchAryan of Swamy Desikan ) . It was at

Kacchi VaaytthAn MaNTapam that NadAthUr AmmAl blessed

the 5 year old child , the future Swamy Desikan to become

the great defender and MahA Desikan of the VisishtAdhvaitha

SampradhAyam in the Post-RaamAnujA Period.

 

Adhi VaNN SaThakOpan & Kaanchi

It was here that Adhi VaNN SaThakOpa Jeeyar conducted His

studies with GhadikA Satham AmmAL and was encouraged by

latter to travel to AhObilam to recieve SanyAsAsramam from

Lord Narasimhan to establish the SrI Matam.

 

Pancha Matha Bhanjana Taata Desika & Vamsam

Many AchAryAs of the TaatAchArya AchArya Vamsam followed

this path to Kaanchi and Kaimkaryam to PeraruLALan . In this haloed

ground near Kaanchi ( Thiruppukkuzhi) SrI KrishNa Tata Desikan was

born in 1823 C.E. adiyEn has covered some of his major contributions

of this great AchAryan to Bhagvath RaamAnuja Siddhantham and

Swamy Desikan's SrI Sookthis in the previous mails.

 

Thirupukkuzhi Swamy comes from this illustrious vamsam and

has given us great UpakAram by restoring ThUppul Sannadhi of

Swamy Desikan to its former glory , performing nithya kaimakryams of

Lord VaradarAjan and helping to nurture many branches of SrI VaishNavite

AchAryAs.

 

It is for these reasons the Kaanchi based celebrations of TPK Swamy's

special Thirunakashathram Uthsavam at HIS AASRAMAM IN SRI RANGARAJA

VEEDHI has a special significance and adiyEn requests you to support
