Earlier I had invited your attention to the plans for conducting

the 181st (Third Shastiabdha Poorthy Mahthsavam ) of one of

the most revered AchAryAs blessed by the Dhivya Dampathis of

Kaanchipuram . He is Thirupputkuzhi SrI KrishNa TaatArya MahA

Desikan .

 

This month's Nrusimha PriyA has an excellent artilce on His Vaibhavam . adiyEn is sharing the highlights of that article to illustrate

how indebted we are to this MahA Desikan for His kaimakryams

for the protection and enrichment of VisishtAdhvaitha Darsanam ,

the contributions for the enduring NithyArAdhanam at ThUppul

NiigamAntha MahA Desikan Sannidhi , His untiring contributions

to the administration of Lord VaradarAjA's historic temple at Kaanchi.

the extraordinary blessings of Kaanchi dhivya dampathis.

Here are some excerpts from that article in Nrusimha PriyA

about SrI KrishNa TaatArya MahA DEsikan:

 

1. AvathAram: SvabhAnu Year , Iypaasi Month, AaslEshA

nakshathram ( Year 1823 C.E).

 

2. Geneology:The great AchAryan , Sri Pancha Matha Bhanjana

Taata Desikan ( 1509-1591 C.E) belongs to the Thirumalai Nambi

vamsam (SrI Saila Vamsam) , which traces itself to Swamy Naathamuni

Himself . The Pancha Mathams (Five mathams) that this AchAryan

defeated to establish the superiority of VisishtAdhvaitham were

Kapila , KaNAtha, Sukha , Jaina and Saiva mathams . His sishyar

was the Upanishad BhAshyakArar , SrI RangarAja Muni , who

gave us the VisishtAdhvaithic commentary of the Upanishads.

 

2.1: The SveekAra Puthrar (adopted son) of Panmcha Matha Bhanjana

Taata Desikan was Lakshmi KumAra Taata Desikan ( 1572-1632 C.E).

He belonged to the 21st generation of Swamy Naatha Muni.His

Bhagavath Kaimkaryam at Lord VaradarAjan's temple are illustrious

and His descendants carry on those kaimkaryams even today at

the famous Kaanchi Temple.

 

2.2: In the 6th Paramparai of SrI Lakshmi KumAra Taata Desikan

was born SrI Thirupputkkuzhi KrishNa TaatArya MahA Desikan

(TPK SWamy ) in the year 1823 C.E.

 

3. TPK Swamy 's Jaathaka Vaibhavam: In the astrological chart (Jaathakam)

of Swamy , Bhudhan and Guru were ascendant and Sukran is at His

own home . That rare combination of grahams were intrepreted to

indicate the birth of a great AchAryan with "SarvathO Mukha

PaaNDithyam " or scholarship in every VidhyA SthAnaam like

Sarva Tantra Svatantra NIgamAntha MahA Desikan of ThUppul.

 

4. Infancy : As a young child , Swamy would listen with intensity to

Veda ParAyaNam , SthOthra recitals and AzhwAr prabhandham recitals

at his home and outside . As a toddler , Swamy will join with joy

the KaalakshEpa ghOshtis and places where Bhagavath AarAdhanam

was taking place.

 

5. Anugraham of Lord VaradarAjan: On completion of its first year of

birth , the father of TPK Swamy took the child to Lord VaradarAjan's

Sannidhi . The infant looked at the Lord and with tears of joy in

his eyes was lost in meditation of the Lord . All devotees around

the child were overcome with emotion at the sight of this future

AchAryan.Through His Archaka , Lord VaradarAjan blessed

the child to gain SarvathO MUkha PaaNDithyam.

 

6. PerumdEvi ThAyAr's anugraham: Next , the child was taken to

ThAyAr Sannidhi.Thechild was lost in meditation of ThAyAr for

more than an hour.As ThiruvArAdhana Samayam approached ,

the father took the child home. Interrupted from its joyous

meditation on PerumdEvi ThAyAr, the child cried all the way

home and did not stop crying.The Father took the child back to

ThAyAr Sannidhi. There the child was given the milk presented to

ThAyAr . On drinking that sacred milk, the child stopped crying.

People around were moved by that extraordinary sight and called

the child another Lakshmi KumArar ( The original Lakshmi KumAra

Taata Desikan was blessed by MahA Lakshmi presiding at

Thirukkudanthai temple as SrI KomaLavalli ThAyAr ).

 

7. VidhyA GrahaNam ( acquisition of VidhyAs): The extraordinarily gifted child

quickly mastered Veda , Dhivya prabhandha adhyayanam , Saasthrams ,

SangItham , yOgam , Silpam , Bharatha Saasthram , JyOthisham and

Dharma Saasthram.Many future AchAryAs learnt from this talented

young AchAryan . One of them was the scholar, who adorned the throne

Of AhObila Matam with the nAmam of PiLLaippAkkam Azhagiya Singar.

 

8. Grantha NirmANam: Many brilliant and deep granthams were composed

by TPK Swamy as an AchAryan and He won in many important debates

and vanquished those , who contested the doctrines of VisishtAdhvaitham

as established by AchArya RaamAnuja and Swamy Desikan .Many Tarka

SrikOsams and Poorva MeemAmsa SrIkOsams were blessed to us by

TPK SWamy.Two of the granthams that established firmly the meanings

of NaarAyaNa Sabdham are Nathva Chandrika and Paramukha sapEtikai.

These are recognized as precious treasures .

 

9. Kaimkaryam at ThUppul Swamy Desikan Sannidhi:The Sannidhi

of our ThUppul KUlamaNi was taken over by ill wishers to our

SampradhAyam and for many years , Swamy Desikan Sannidhi was

closed and stayed locked without nithya AarAdhanam. It was a sad

period. TPK Swamy sued the occupiers at the Chengalpat court

and won the rights of administration of our ThUppul Kula MaNi's

sannidhi . TPK Swamy repaired the temple that had fallen into

disuse and restarted nithya aarAdhanams and uthsavams for

Swamy Desikan.

 

10 . We will always be grateful to this AchArya Saarvabhouman

for many of His Kaimkaryams . One of the most memorable among

them is the MangaLAsAsana Kramam on Swamy Desikan's

Thirunakshathram days at Lord VaradrAjan's Hasthigiri . This was

restarted after 60 years of interruption. At the end of this MangaLAsAsanam ,

Lord VaradarAja and Swamy Desikan arrive at abhishEka MaNTapam

every year and recieve the shower of flowers (Pushpa Vrushti) and then

Swamy Desikan returns reluctantly to His sannidhi in ThUppul.
