a new CD ROM on the selected Paasurams of AzhwArs

sung by Sangeetha VidvAmsini and Bahratha Naatyam expert ,

SrImathi Vasumathy BadrinAth. She is a residnet of Bombay

and an AasthAna VidhvAn of SrI Matam .

set to delectable music. This is a Naadha NaivEdhyam

of a unique kind.

 

The recordings begin with an anugraha BhAshaNam of

HH 45th Pattam SrImath Azhagiya Singar ( SrI NaarAyaNa

YathIndhra MahA Desikan ) and was released during August 2003.

The summary of SrImath Azhagiya Singar is at the end of this note.

 

At the Pomoma , NY , SrI RanganAtha Temple , we ordered 100 copies of

this outstanding recording for use by USA devotees and connoseiurs

of Dhivya Prabhandham and Carnatic Music .Those in India can contact

5. Nadantha KaalkaL nonthavO --Thirumazhisai Azhwar's

Famous Paasuram commanding Lord AarAvamudhan to

get up and speak to him : Rakthi Raagam of Sindhu

Bhairavi and Aadhi TaaLam .

 

6. AnbE TagaLiyA -- BhUthatthAzhwAr's Para JN~Anam filled

Paasuram : Raagam HindOLam , Aadhi TaaLam

 

7. OodumatinguzharkkE -- SWamy NammAzhwAr's moving

paasuram as the love lorn ParAnkusa Naayaki with

vipralambha SringAram filled anubhavam . Raagam selected

is the most appropriate one for the occasion (viz)., Aahiri

and the TaaLam is Aadhi. The section of the Pasuram ,

" Malayum Vanthathu , Maayanum VaarAn pulls at one's

heart strings .

 

8. Maathalit-tEr --Raagam Baaga SrI and Aadhi Taalam .

AndAl appeals to the Koil to announce the arrival

of Her Karu MaaNikkam ( Lord KrishNan , Her Naayakan).

This Paasuram is from NaacchiyAr Thirumozhi.

 

9. Pacchai Maamalai pOl mEni-- THoNDaradipodi AzhwAr's

celebration of the ThirumEni of Lord RanganAthan and

the declaration that he does not prefer anyother BhOgams

other than enjoying the delectable beauty of the anga

Soundharyam of the Lor dof SrIrangam . This Paasuram

is sung in the joyous rAgam of Naatakkurinji

 

10. Mannu Puhazh Kousalai tann MaNI vayiru VaaitthavamE--

KUlasEkahara AzhwAr's famous lullaby to THirukkaNNapuaram

PerumAl visualized as Raaghava Simham . The tenderness of

this paasuram is brought in to full effect with the choice of

NeelAmpuri as the Raagam and Aadhi TaaLam .

 

11. MangaLam in Surutti : VedAntha Desikar's Vayyagam Paasuram

from Desika Prabhandham requesting AzhwAr's anugraham

to be blessed with the NaalAyira Dhivya prabhandham

knowledge .

 

12. Conclusion with MangaLam sung in MadhyamAvathi .

Nithya MangaLam to ANDAL and Her Lord , SrInivAsan .

 

The artist is accompanied by a full bench of talented

Pakka Vaadhyam artists ( Violin , Flute, Mrudhangam , Ghatam

and Morsing ). They complimet the pradhAna artist sensitively.

 

The artistry of SrImathi Vasumathy BadrinAth is of the highest

Quality. To construct "mettu " for Sanga Kaala Tamizh Paasurams

of AzhwArs and to wed them to appropriate Raagams and TaaLams

in the spirit of Swamy Naathamuni , who set the Four Thousand

sacred collect to Music originally is an extraordinary achievement .

 

The Bhakthi bhAvam and RaasAnubhavam that the artist brings to

the rendering of these Paasurams is noteworthy. Her deep knowledge of

both Carnatic Music and rigorous training in Bharatha Naatyam

nuances join together to leave the listeners with a delightful

experience . The azhuttham at specific places , the rendering of

many imaginative sangathis , niravals , clarity of diction , Layak-kattuppAdu ,

Sruthi Suddham and appropriate Eduppus are hall marks of the seasoned

artistry of SrImathi Vasumathi Badrinath .

 

It is our hope that she would create more such recordings even if

they are sung as simple Virutthams to the accompaniment of

VeeNai . It is hoped that she will add Paasurams of Thirumangai

Mannan , Madhura Kavi and ThiruppANa AzhwAr in her next recordings.

among them is that of giving good birth in VaishNava Kulam. We can

gain janma Saapalyam ( fruition of the purpose in life ) if we engage in

th study of Bhagavath Vishayam associated with the Four Thousand

sacred collect . For fulfilling the purpose of birth as a human being ,

it is not enough to study SaasthrAs but we have to steep ourselves

in the enjoyment of Bhagavath Vishayam . The blessed and divine

works( aruLiccheyalkaL ) of the AzhwArs are focused on the enjoyment of

the glories of the archAvathArams of SrIman NaarAyaNan (Consecrated

icons of the Lord ) at the 108 dhivya dEsams. Their dhivya prabhandha

paasurams helps us to enjoy the limitless , auspcious attributes of

the Lord , which is an insatiable nectarine experience . Many indeed are

the commentaries of dhivya prabhandham scholars on these four

thousand sacred collect.The beauty and the depth of theological

meanings of the words chosen by AzhwArs in their paasurams are

indecribable as revealed from the works of commentators .

 

SrImathi Vasumathi BadrinAth of Bombay has created the tunes (mettu) for

selected Paasurams of the AzhwArs in htis recording . Listening to them

will fillone's mind with Bhagavath Bhakthi . If one knows also the meanings of

these paasurams , it will take us to a higher level of aanandham .Even if one

does not have the command of the meaning of the Pasurams , the sukham

of just listening to these renderings will develop deep bhakthi for BhagavAn.
