Swamy Desikan's AshtOtthara Satha NaamAvaLi : Part I

Dear Swamy Desika BhakthAs :

We are in the middle of preparing two Special CD ROMs

on the Life and Vaibhavam of Swamy NigamAntha

MahA Desikan . SrI Lakshmi Narasimhan Sridhar

is working with adiyEn on that project .

The first of the two CD ROMs will be in ChithrA form ( Chithra-

Desikeeyam like Chithra RaamAyaNam )depicting the life

of Swamy Desikan for children and young adults in pictures .

The sceond CD ROM will address the information

needs of Adult aasthikAs on Swamy Desikan's

avathAra Sthalam and His SrI Sookthis . It will

also include the AshtOtthara Satha NaamAvaLi

of Swamy Desikan that is used at ThUppul and

Thiruvaheendhrapuram Sannidhis of Swamy Desikan ,

whenever an archanaa is performed .

The AshtOtthara Satha NaamAvaLi SrI Sookthi is

very powerful and blesses the reciter with all kinds of

soubhAgyams and auspiciousness . This Swamy Desika

AshtOtthara Satha NaamAvaLi has been bequeathed to us

by SrI VenkatachArya Swamy alias PaatrAcchAr Swamy ,

the son of the great AchAryan , SrI Lakshmi KumAra TatAchAr

Swamy , who devoted His life to the Kaimkaryams at Kaanchi

PeraruLALan Sannidhi.

PaatrAcchAr Swamy's intense devotion to Swamy Desikan led him

to describe himself as Sarva Tantra Svatantra VedAnthAchArya

DaasAnu Daasan . He was living at Thirukkudanthai(KumbakONam)

and was honored by the MarattA Kings of Tanjore for his scholarship .

SrI Venkatacharya belongs to the Thirumalai Nambi Vamsam and

therefore has links to AchArya RaamAnujA as well .Thrumalai Nambi

is indeed the uncle of AchArya RaamAnuja .

SrI Venkatacharya has written a Sanskrit commentary for his AshtOtthara

Satha NaamAvaLi on Swamy Desikan and has named it AchArya GuNAdarsam

( the mirror that reveals the auspicious attributes of Swamy Desikan

as our ParamAchAryan ). Dr.V.N.VedAntha Desikan Swamy has mentioned

that SrI Gopala TatachArya Swamy , the Thiruvadi of PeriyANDavan of

Srirangam Andavan Aaasramam has written a Tamil Commentary for

this AshtOtthra Satha NaaAvaLi on Swamy Desikan . The Sahasra

Naamam for Swamy Desikan has been blessed by HH Thirukkudanthai

GopAlArya MahA Desikan .That SrI Sookthi is being covered by adiyEn

elsewhere .

We shall proceed now to list the AshtOtthara Satha NaamAvaLi

first and then give simple meanings for these 108 NaamAs .
