(17) Adhi DevanE! Jagath kaaraNa SarvEshawaraa! The primordial Cheilf! Lord of everyone! Having AdhisEshan’s ThirumEni as the bed (or the seat) and having Your Yoga nithrA on grand Milky Ocean! Further, You appear as One mUrthy; three mUrthis; four mUrthys; the mUrthy depending and based on [our] enjoyment; mUrthy based on puNyas (good deeds) and many others. Thus there are numerous mUrthys and various archA mUrthys- in most goregeous dhivya mangaLa vihrahams in Divya Desams. Why and how? (en kol) Poorvaacharyas comment that first three lines refer to Para vyUha, vibhava avathArams and finally they all became archA mUrthys- why? We can enjoy that manner. Also these Para vyUha vibhava have already been dealt with by AzhwAr in earlier verses. With Them as Base, these archAvathArams have take n place – commentaries mention for this verse. Eka mUrthy- ParavaasudEva muRthy; Sankarshana, Pradhyumna, Aniruddha mUrthys- are trio- three mUrthys. Including vyUha Vaasudevan- four mUrthys. Nanmai sEr- unlike other mUrthys- these mUrthys – as meant for enjoyoment of devotees- ArAdhakars as well as those assembled- enjoy Him – bhOga mUrthy- which does good to those who assemble to pay their obeisance, perform anjali and prostrate. Archya: sarvasaahishNu: archaka paraDhInAKhilAthmAsThithi: Sarva aparAdhAs (all trespasses and transgressions) are forgiven by the Lord while performing ArAdhanam to Him [Aaathu perumAL and the Lord in the temples- archA mUrthis] and still He grants good to the Asrithars (devotees)- nanmei sEr. Thus all ArchAs are bhOga mUrthy – nanmei sEr bhOga mUrthy. Even vibhava avathArams – were there to be seen and enjoyed by phycial eyes. Thus those who had done good deed can only enjoy and see Him in vibhava avathArams. Thus- He is the mUrthy for Punya janaas. Also only those who have done some good deeds-can get to enjoy the Lord in divya Desams as well. Also the vibhava avathARams appeared to establish the dharma and also performed anushtAnams thus- puNya mUrthys they are. One can remember and enjoy GitA slOkam- Ch 4- 11th verse- yE yaThA mAm prapadhyanthE thAmsthaThaiva bhajAmyaham | mama varthmAnuvartthanthE manushyA: pArTha sarvaSa: || Those who seek refuge in Me- in my whatever form (i.e. any avthAram or archAi) I favour them in the same manner… Arjuna, people experience My form in all ways thereafter. I show myself in that form once they take refuge in Me in any form- whatsoever. Swamy desikan mentions that archA form is mentioned here by the Lord. Here Srinivasa Ranga varadha rUpams are referred to perhaps. ArchaavathAram also can be referred to in this verse wholly – Sri UttamUr Swamy writes: Eka mUrthy- the archA form SaaLagrAma mUrthy at home; (can be in one); Or at temples; three mUrthys- Moolavar; uthsavar and Sayana mUrthy; bHoga mUrthy- archA (or SaaLagrAmam) enjoys the upachArams performed during ThiruvArAdhanam; like bathing (Thirumanjanam), dressing, adorning Him with ornaments, ThuLasi, etc.. are all performed touching Him. Haarathi (with camphor) upachAram is performed from a distance. Offering of food is also performed from a distance. SaamsparSika, aupachArika, aabhyavahArika bhOgams. Thus there are mUrthys who accept these upachArams; there are mUrthys who grant good to those who come and prostrate, perform anjali.(puNya mUrthy); There are mUrthys who recline on AdhisEshan (naagamUrthy); AgamUrthy- Agam- yaagam- archai- Thus archA mUrthy.
