SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

AzhwAr enjoys the AdhisEsha paryankam in a different

manner and wonders and asks in this verse.

 

puLLAthaaki vEdha naangum Othinaay adhanRiyum,

puLLinvaay piLanthu putkodip pidiththa pinnarum,

puLLaiy oorthi aathal adhenkol min koL nEmiyaay,

puLLinmey pagai kadalkidaththal kaadhaliththathE.

Oh Lord with Divine lustrous ChakrA! You appeared as

that Hamsa pakshi (bird) and taught four Vedas (to

Chathurmukha BrahmA). Also, Though You tore the beak

of the bird asurA into two pieces (in Your

KrishnAvathAram when the asurA appeared as a bird with

A plot to kill You), You still keep the bird as Your

flag (Garuda is referred to here); Further, You have

the bird as Your vehicle. When such is Your connection

and love for the bird clan, why are You behaving in a

contradicting way? [what is that?- asks the Lord] You

have adopted the enemy of the bird as Your bed i.e

AdhisEshan and You love to recline on that bed. That

is why- I have asked.

 

You have not differentiated the bird and Yourself and

You appeared as the very Bird to teach Vedas. You are

Veda mUrthy; and You considered the VedaswarUpi-

GarudA as Your flag as well as the vehicle. Though You

like to be bird and had the bird as vehicle, still You

killed a bird by tearing its beak. In spite of that

stray incident, You love birds (jatAyu- is one

example). However why have You considered their enemy

as Your bed?

 

You may say: AdhisEshan is not the real enemy [mey

pagai] to GarudA. This is just an anubhavam to enjoy

(rasOkthi).

 

When You appeared as Hamsa rUpam – taught Vedas,

killed the bird asurA; went around the worlds on

GarudA as GarudArUdan and saved masses, why are You

taking rest on AdhisEshan? Is there any tired and

weariness for You? You are Sarvashakthan. You need to

be on Your toes on Garuda and save jeevathmas from

asatthus. You should appear with your strength,

veerya shakthi thEjas and protect good; destroy evil;

what is danger in ocean for you? Who is there to enjoy

You at milky ocean on AdhisEshan ecept the AdhisEshan

and PiraaTTi? What is the use for us with Your

reclining on paarkadal?

 

Also mey pagai- mey- udal- body – cover; the enemity

appears as cover; it appears so; inside- none. There

is absolutely no enemity between two NithyasUris;

there can not be.

 

Gomukan asurA snatched away the Vedas from BrahmA and

Lord appeared as Mathsyam to retrieve them; then He

taught the Vedas as Hamsa to remove the asAram and

grant only the saaram (*essence) and taught with dwani

beautifully and mellifluously. (periyAzhwAr

Thirumozhi- 1.9.10- mentions also this incident)
