Dearest Srivaishnavas,

PerumAL appears to be asking AzhwAr “why are you

saying “I am tempting and enticing you snatching my

mind off my Lotus feet? “ Just because I am the

Almighty I do not do to my whims and fancies – though

I can. It is all due to enormous karma and their

fruits alone.. Isn’t it?

AzhwAr responds here..

Og Most valorous One! The One who effortlessly kicked

the wheel asurA with your toddler feet! [in your

KrishNAvathAram] In the middle of the pond full of

deep waters, You danced on the venomous snake

kaaLingan and tamed him! SarvaSwAmi! My nAthA! The One

who has divine Sankhu (Conch Shell) in Your

resplendent Hand! KaNNA! Everyday, if one retains your

most sweetest, divine beautiful red lotus feet in the

heart, he can get rid if all sins accrued over the

ages; why does he not do that sincerely and

faithfully?

It is Yiur nature to remove all hurdles and enemies if

your Asrithars (devotees); Where is the proof – You

may ask. There very many. Here is few. As a toddler,

You kicked the sakatAsura with your little cute foot

making him roll to death. The venomous snake with

thousand heads enjoying its time unchallenged in the

pond making even the waters poisonous, You jumped into

it playfully and then danced on each of its head when

it raised the same to kill you with fiery fumes and

poison and when it tried to tie you down making you

choke, you caught hold of its tail and merrily showed

Your self as great dancer. You thus destroyed the

enemies of Gopas and the cattle.

Similarly can you not remove my enemies – namely, my

own five senses, the accrued tons of paapams… Can you

not destroy them?

I am retaining these lotus red feet of yours inside my

heart. It would start killing some asurA., dance on

some snake and hurt itself; and hence I wish to

protect its tenderness and beauty by hiding it from

others inside my heart. Thus having the feet always in

my heart, still why are You ignoring me – is the

underlying message- perhaps to the Lord.

Veedanaaga- Removing all paapams – sins; OR it may

also mean- getting rid of this samsaaric births and

attain Paramapadham.

Thus with this verse, please bless by destroying all

my accrued various paapams.

AzhwAr pleads for the meditation of His lotus feet

everyday- always. Thus when he claim that he retains

the lotus feet in his heart, he implies that it is NOT

poorNa dhyAnam. – not full and complete, uninterrupted

meditation. In order to perform that ceaseless

dhyAnam, the destruction of enemies and hurdles need

to be there and for that as far as possible think of

His lotus feet and that would remove and cleanse all

these enemies and hurdles.

This also does not happen always as even kaivalyam

[enjoying of one’s own jeeevathman- self], asishwaryam

[wealth] fruits come to mind and they become the

hurdles and thus even they need to be destroyed.

Thinking of Your feet alone is enough for the

paamams’s destruction? Is there any other

praayaschittham that is required? Thinking of Kutti

KaNNan’s little cure red lotus feet is implied and

thus AzhwAr addresses KANNA! in the verse.

Even Sage Pasarasara rishis have said,

“prAyaschitthAnyaSESHANi karmAthmakAni vai|

yAni thEshAmaSESHANAM krishNAnusmaraNam param ||

anusmaraNam is thinking of Him everyday. Think of His

lotus feet.

NammAzhwAr also mentions the same in Thiruvaymozhi
