Thirucchandhaviruttham- 89th verse- You do not just grant Devas what they need; You grant even human beings as well!

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

 

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

For humans, what they need- I have granted Devas the

power to grant what humans need by praying to them.

They are empowered by me to grant what humans need.

Though I give, they are blessed by me to grant the

same to humans. Do not think that they are also

beggars like you human beings. Have respect for them,

pray to them to get for what you need.

 

AzhwAr says: You- The One- who grants such Devas such

powers to give to humans who pray to them; are the

same One who gives to Arjunan and other four paaNdava

kings straight and hence You do not stop only with

Devas. You have given even humans what materials they

need. Hence I will hold on to You alone:

 

paarmikuththa paaramunno

zhichchuvaana ruchchanan,

thErmikuththu maayamaakki

ninRukonRu venRisEr,

maaratharkku vaan_koduththu

vaiyamaivar paalathaam,

seermikuththa ninnalaalor

theyvamn^aanma thippanE? (89)

 

In order to destroy the unparalleled heavy burden that

the earth was subjected to, You showed Yourself with

such a sowlabhyam as Charioteer for Arjunan and

performed even much grander duties that the

Charioteer; Utilizing Your Divine ChakrA and Sankhu,

and where not to be used, You stood in support of

Arjunan in front of him; destroyed the enemies, and

those in the likes of Bhishma, Drona and others who

had seen only victory in their life and granted them

heaven; Thus You enabled Pancha Paandava kings win and

rule; Thus this world was blessed to enrich itself

with the witnessing of such wonderful kalyANa guNAs of

Yours- and leaving You- such Greatest and Grandest

One- will I ever bow down and pay respect to anyone

else [as God]?

 

You performed great wonders in the battlefield. He was

Your Rathi; and You were Sarathi (Driver). However,

when he was caught with sudden sprouted emotions and

with snEha, kaaruNya, vipariTha jnAnam as to how he

can kill his cousins and uncle; acharya et al, You

took the role of Acharyan and taught him the rich

esseence of Sakala saasthras and Vedas in the form of

725 verses as GitA Saasthram.

 

You hid the Sun with You Divine ChakrA for letteing

Jayathrathan come out before dark and let Arjunan kill

him in the battle field; Swirling the ChakrA and

running towards Bheeshma breaking the Promises made to

Bheeshma that He [KaNNan] would not take the weapon];

Letting Yudhishtra utter asvatthAmA hatha: kunjara:

and when he said Kunjara: KaNNan blew His Conch Shell

so that none would hear Kunjara: and dhrOnAchArya can

be killed.

Thus He performed many wonders in the battle field.

 

They- Bheeshma, and other warriors had always won in

the battle fields. Even now by sending them to Heavan

through this SathuApyam of doing their duty and having

veera maraNam in the battle field dying as martyrs,

they also win in this battle as well.

 

Not even the tip of the needle can be granted to

Pancha paandavas- said DuryOdhanan to KaNNan when he

came in as their dhUthan [messenger]. Now KaNNan

enabled Pandavas destroy such cruel enemies i.e.

Kauravas and let the whole kingdom be granted to them.

He is such a guNavaan.

 

Thus, in the above three verses- AzhwAr rejected the

prayer to Devathaantharams (other demi gods) saying

all of them are not capable of granting the fruits by

themselves. They can grant only the little that they

can- due to the power entrusted to them by the Lord

Sriman Narayanan. Thus AzhwAr declares the ananya

gathithvam- having no other refuge for him except

Sriman Narayanan.
