SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

Raman- KaNNan- they were all uttered by me and

described by me- Which form is that now? AzhwAr prays

to that form for His abhayam [assurance for me not to

fear] and for His bestowing His grace.

 

surumparanku thaNduzhaaythu

thainthalarntha paadhamE,

virumpin^inRi RaiNYchuvERki

rankaranka vaaNanE,

karumpiruntha kattiyE!ka

dalkidantha kaNNanE,

irumparanka veNYcharamthu

ranthavilli raamanE! (93)

 

Oh Sweetest vellakatti (jaggery) - Sweetest from Time

immemorial! Oh KaNNA! The One who reclines of Milky

Ocean! Oh Rama PiraanE! The One who has the divine Bow

that sent fiery arrows to destroy even the iron metal!

You are the One who is residing in Srirangam! Oh

RanganAThA! Please bless and bestow Your benevolent

mercy and compassion on me - who holds on to and who

desires for the divine red lotus feet of Yours alone

[and nothing else] where bees flock to the cool most

fragrant fresh thuLasi leaves open out fully.

 

You are the ParamabhOgyam at Paramapadham and in order

to save the Devas, You reclined on Milky Ocean and

also took Rama, krishna and other avathArams and not

pleased and satisfied with that, You bless us (the

likes of me) by showing yourself to be enjoyed by

naked eyes (prathyaksham) here - right here- as Lord

Rangan of Srirangam Dhivya kshEthram. You have been

residing here. Hence, You alone Rangaa should bless

this adiyEn (me) - Your devotees- who have considered

only Your Lotus feet [and nothing else] where most

fragrant thuLasi leaves are there and where bees drink

honey from these leaves. Similar to those leaves, we

(Asrithars) also drink the most divine red lotus

feet's beauty.

 

karubu irundha kattiyE! From the sugarcane sticks, the

jaggery is made and formed and You are like that-

sweetest - personification of bhOgyam. Also, You have

been thus since time immemorial (irundha- present

always- eternal) Thus, Irundha karumbu kattiyE!

kadaR kidantha kaNNanE!- KaNNA! The One who has

reclined on Milky ocean!

 

yEsha nArAyaNa sreemaan ksheerArNava nikEthana: |

nAgaparyankhamuthsrujya hyAgathO madhurAm purIm ||

 

Thus KsheerAbdhi sayanan took KaNNan avathAram. Thus

one can not go to Milky ocean often and enjoy You;

hence You decided to be right here at our doorstep in

Srirangam as Lord Thiruvarangan - Azhagiya maNavaaLan.

 

Even the iron forts and ramparts got destroyed- Thus

You had sent fiery arrow from Your divine Bow- Such

most valorous Lord are You Raamaa! You are the One who

is at Srirangam now.

 

PeriyAzhwAr also says:

 

sencholmaRaipporuLaakin^inRa

dhEvar_kaLn^aayakanE! emmaanE!

enchalilennudaiyinnamudhE!

Ezhulakumudaiyaay! ennappaa!

 

Oh Devaadhi dEvA! The one who is the essence of all

Vedas (which is full of sweet words)! My swami! My

sweetest divine insatiable nectar! The ruler of

fourteen worlds! My AppA! (Father) Lord RangA! When

the deceitful Yama dhUthAs forcibly snatch me and hold

me making me suffer, You should save me saying, “Do

not fear” (anjal).
