Thirucchandhaviruttham- 96th verse- Getting rid of any more births - it can happen only due to Your grace!

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

 

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

Oh Azhweer! It is right to contemplate on my

antharyaamithvam; to get tattva jnAnam (getting to

know about the entities, and the relationship with

lord) and praying to me to be in Your heart residing

ever is most appropriate. But I alone am the upAyam

(means) - You claim. What is the meaning of that? Are

you trying to ask for not letting you have any desires

in you at all? How is that possible? As long as you

live here with physical [prAkrutha] body, you are

bound to have some deeds with senses. You can of

course perform bhajanam, kaimkaryam with your limbs

and body. It is normal to act with senses and also

undergo the phalan (fruits) arising out of such

actions through senses. If you commit some mistakes

due to wrong desires (viparitha Asai) and then if You

are asking me and praying to me as prayschittham to

get rid of that sin, then it is acceptable and who is

stopping you for that?. If such a desire comes, ask

later as prayaschittham.

 

AzhwAr says: If that's so and it is unavoidable to

escape the sensual pulls, please bless me Lord, with

no more of such prAkrutha body or birth here and grant

me mOksham...and make me qualified for the same.

Oh Lord! The One who is the unbounded limitless mUla

prakruthI (Cosmic matter)! Most wonderful most

mysterious Lord! Ascharya PurushA! PundareekAkshA!

Pristinely purest Lord! for all aeons, all ages, all

kalpams, all yugas, in all seven worlds, if one

attempts to simply praise You as You are, even then

one can not complete or arrive at an end of his

praising You and Your Glories and KalyANa guNAs- Such

greatest Lordship! Without Your anugraham [Grace], one

can not get rid of the various births and please bless

[adiyEn] to get rid of all such future births and

enable me attain Paramapadham and reach Your abode-

Your Lotus Feet and be there for ever. Please bless me

qualified for that.

 

For this cosmic matter -prakruthi- there is absolutely

no lower boundary [There is an upper boundary which is

virajA nadhI- beyond which there is Paramapadham].

There is no time limit for the Matter. It would always

be there either in form of Gross [sthoolam] or fine

[sookshumam]; This matter is made up of thriguNam

(three gunas- namely, Sattva, Rajas and thamas).

Matter or Substance that is thus characterized by

these three gunas is undergoing changes incessantly.

This matter (prakruthi) is responsible for the

functioning of the baddha jeevathmas with the maayam

and influence of these three gunas for gaining

experience of the world and get trapped into happiness

and sorrows alternately.

 

Because of the respective karma of jeevathmaas, thus

from time immemorial (anAdhikAlam) the jeevathmas are

trapped into the cycle of births and deaths. Through

the qualities of Rajas and thamas, matter becomes the

cause of vipareetha jnAnam or perverse knowledge about

the entities covering reality. It is then called maaya

as it hides the true nature of the jeevan as well as

Paramathma and it causes the enjoyer ship idea in the

experience of the sense objects. This has caught

everyone right from BrahmA [four faced one]- Rudran

down to Devas, human beings, animals, insects et al.

There is not escape absolutely.

 

Even if there is a way, if at all there is, it is and

it could be only due to Your grace alone as You are

mahaa maayan- Most wonderful and Most mysterious One -

Lord of all! You are however The Purest and Perfect

One who administers and organizes all without any

blemish or without any imperfections on You. You are

untouched by all this; yet You are the One manifested

in all.

 

Thus if one attempts to praise You with Your grandest

Glories and Your kalyANa gUnas - out of all these

worlds; out of all these times (for aeons); and

continue to from eternity till date, still one can not

fulfil or complete the praise. yathO vachO

nivartthanthE aprA Apya manasaa sa: [where the word

fails to reach You and returns back having failed, the

mind also fails to reach and comes back..]

 

namO namO vaan manasaathi bhUmayE

namO namO vaan manasaika bhUmayE. [from Sri Alavandhar

SthOthra Rathnam]

 

PraNamams (Prostrations) again and again to You who is

beyond the Speech and mind;

PraNamams (Prostrations) again and again to You who is

the very object of Speech and mind…

 

He does not calculate the value of the things you

offer him .He VALUES ONLY THE FEELING behind your

offering.

 

Lord Krishna assures-

 

" Whoever offers me with loving devotion a leaf, a

flower, a fruit or even water, I enjoy this offering

made with devotion by him who is pure-minded " 17

Patram pushpam phalam thoyam yo mey bhaktya prayachati

|

Tad aham bhaktya upahritam asnaami prayatatmanah ||

 

Thus none gets Your grace by praising You fully;

everyone only touches Your guNas briefly (that is the

only thing feasible). Even mentioning a little, You

consider as the huge praise and consider as the

greatest effort prayer and taking that as an excuse

(vyAjam) You grant fruits; Please bless adiyEn also

the same by getting me rid of further births. Please

enable me to be qualified for that.

 

Thus AzhwAr wishes to serve Him at Paramapadham [as

here the prakruthi may corrupt him and trap him- he

apprehends].
