SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

 

You do not have to fall into the swirling whirl pools;

Just do some good deeds and enjoy the fruits of puNya;

and then bhakti yoga also will get eventually

fulfilled. – Lord tells AzhwAr. AzhwAr requests:

Please do not think in that line on adiyEn (me). It is

equivalent to pushing me into naraka (hell).

 

kaattinaaNnsey valvinaippa

yanRaNnaalma Nnanthanai,

naattivaiththu nallavalla

seyyaveNNi Nnaarena,

kEttathanRi yennathaavi

pinnaikELva! ninnodum,

poottivaiththa vennain^innuL

neekkalpoovai vaNNanE! (99)

 

Oh Master of Nappinnai PiraaTTI! The blue hued Lord!

Base don cruel, strong karma that I had committed and

based on my past deeds, showing those fruits of such

actions, and enchanting my mind and distracting me

away from Your Lotus feet which is the only Goal- I

have heard that You have thought of me like that in

this birth due to my karma in the past; and please do

not do that and further, please bless me and do not

stanch away from You this AthmA of mine – that adiyEn

has stuck and glued to Bhagavad vishayam alone.

 

When this birth of mine took place, the elders and

scholars (astrologers) who have seen my horoscope

mentioned “The Lord has considered strong past actions

of his and will show strong forces of matter to him as

fruits for the same to this jeevan thereby the mind

will stay put on the fruits of those actions and will

keep this jeevan here for sometime. That is the Lord’s

thiruvuLLam (mind)”. After having heard that, adiyEn

feels extremely sacred and has an apprehension that I

will get trapped into those evil forces and fruits.

Hence I have made great efforts to keep the mind

locked from such matters and fruits and has focused

only on You.. Hence please do not go away from my mind

or do not remove my mind from your lotus feet.

 

When the fruits are so attractive, the people do not

look at the deeds and the effect of doing such deeds

and the paapams arising out of the same. The mind gets

so tempted by the fruits being shown in the front

(payanthanil manadhaik kaatti) and the mind goes

behind the fruits. It is also due to the influence of

their own karmas. SO, how to get rid of? Is there no

chance at all? AzhwAr shows the way. There is. Simply

control the mind. Lock the mind running behind from

such fruits and place the mind on His lotus Feet.

 

Nallavalla- also may mean- swargam- Heaven. For

{mukukshus, ParamaikAnthins, even heaven is undesired

for. One will be in heaven as long as the puNya stays.

Once the punYa is over, he will fall down from heaven

and will take further births (lowlier possibly).

 

kEetadhanRi- keTTu- adhu- anRi- having heard all that

(about the horoscope) and not just the fruits of my

karma alone; in addition, please bless me to have the

mind stuck to You [which I had done} and do not

remove.

 

Ninnai ennuL neekal- in 91st verse- AzhwAr says ninnai

ennuL neekal-

Here AzhwAr says: ennai ninnul neekkal-

 

This means: You should always reside in my mind always

(in 91st verse). One can think of Lord always even for

getting wealth, and other fruits. But ennai unnuL

neekal- emans- This AthmA is to be placed at Your

feet. Now I will never ever think of myself

considering any other fruits. I am thinking of only

Your Feet and serving at Your feet (mOkshAnubhavam).

 

PeriyAzhwAr also says: [PeriyAzhwAr Thirumozhi 5.4.5]

 

unnaikkoNdu_ennuLvaiththEn ennaiyum_unnilittEn

ennappaa! ennirudeekEsaa! ennuyirkkaavalanE!

 

 

Oh peerless, unparalleled my matchless Father! Oh Lord

who has the power to command all my five senses to be

totally engaged in service only to You! Oh Master!

AtmaswarUpa rakshakaa! [The One who can protect my

AthmA from becoming a slave to others and ensure that

I am Your sEshan at all times as is natural with it]!

A goldsmith scratches the gold against the testing

stone (uraikkal) to verify its pure quality. Similarly

I have placed Your names and You as well on my tongue

and changed it to transform itself into that of

shining gold from its original nature like the stone

shines like gold itself after so many scratches. My

tongue also has attained divinity by constant

scratching of your name (and You). Thanks to that

sweet experience of chanting Your divya nAmAs (divine

names), my tongue has now become sacred and been

sanctified. I have now housed You [who is not easily

attained even by Yogis] in my heat cavity. I have also

made my lowly self as Your humble servant.

 

Unnaik kOndu ennuL vaitthEn.. I placed You inside my

heart and enjoyed Your divya darshan. ennaiyum unnil

ittEn- I placed myself at Your feet.
