SrI:

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

The way He destroyed the demon like kings and the

asuRAs on the earth- is enjoyed by AzhwAr in this

verse.

kaaysinaththa kaasimannan

vakkaranpa vuNdiran,

maasinaththa maalimaansu

maalikEsi thEnukan,

naasamuRRu veezhan^aaLka

varnthan^in_ka zhaRkalaal,

nEsapaasa meththiRaththum

vaiththidEnem meesanE! (107)

Our SwamI! (em essanE!) The extremely angered Kaasi

king, Tandhavakkran, Poundraka Vaasudevan, the very

angry Maali, his elder Sumaali, Kesi Auran, dhEknuan,

were all completely destroyed by You- Their great days

were all snatched away by You; Except for your divine

red lotus feet- I will never ever place my desire on

anything else.

Execpt for Maali and Sumaali, all other listed above

were destroyed by Krishna. Maalyavaan, Sumaali, Maali-

these brothers were staying in lanKA before Ravana and

were troubling Devas. When Vishnu chased them to kill

them, Maali was killed. Sumaali and Maalyavaan hid

themselves in paathALa lOka. Thus naasam- means that

which is not seen by eye (adharsanam) can also be

meant here. Being away into a hide out scared is also

a type of destruction. That’s why Sri UttamUr Swamy

wrote as: their day was snatched away; and NOT as

fully destroyed.. Thus it is mandatory to read correct

to the context and relate to incidents that actually

happened without ditorting the meanings. That is the

beauty of Sri Ramanuja sampradayam- truly interpreting

all sruthi vaakhyams without conflicting or violating

any other its own statements.

Thus AzhwAr says: Except for Your Lotus Feet- I would

never ever place my desire on anything else... Same is

echoed by thaniyan on Ramanujacharya [composed by his

prime disciple: KooratthAzhwAn]:

yO nithya-machyutha-padaam-buja-yugma-rugma

vyaamOhadas dadhi-tha-raaNi thru-Naaya mEnE

asmath-gurOr bhagavathOsya dhayaika-sindhO:

raamaanujasya saraNau saraNam prapadhyE.

[After the entire parampara upto Sri Ramanuja namely,

laksmI nAtha samArambAm nAtha yaamuna madhyamaam-

asmadhAchArya paryanthAm vandhE Guru paramparaam- ,

AzhwAn composes a special slOka for Sri Ramanujacharya

alone.]

I take refuge at the feet of our guru Bhagavaan

Ramanuja, that ocean of mercy who, infatuated with the

gold-like, lotus feet of the Lord, considered

all else as mere blades of grass.

ParamAthmani yOrakthO virakthO(S)paramAthmani- Due to

His jnAna, Bhakthi, VairAgyam, Sri Ramanujacharya

considered only the lotus feet of the Lord Sriman

Narayanan as the means and the Goal- for that matter-

everything. Nothing else mattered to him. He is not

interested in others and considers others (material,

sensual pursuits) as thruNam (blade of grass).

Thirumazhisai Piraan ThiruvaDigaLE SaraNam

Regards

Namo Narayana
