Sri Alavandhaar's SthOthra Rathnam- verse 24- I have been blessed with Your dayaa as the saviour!

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:

 

Dearest srivaishnavas,

 

In various births from time immemorial, in as much you

had committed paapams, you have also been committing

puNyas [virtuous deeds]; Those good deeds have been

enjoyed- do not think. You can enjoy them in future

here. Do not cry with just dhukkam [sorrows] alone;

There are very many ways of granting you sukham

[happiness] here. Do not rush for mOksham-says Lord..

Alavandhar responds:

 

nimajjathOnantha! bhavaarNavaantha: chiraaya mE koolam

ivaasi labdha:

tvayaapi labdham bhagawan idhaaneem anutthamam

paathram idham dayaayaa: [24]

 

Oh immeasurable One who manifests everywhere! Sarva

vyaapI! I- who is deeply immersed and drowning in the

vast, deep ocean of samsaaric ocean- have been blessed

with Your grace right now- as a kind of shore for the

ocean. Oh Lord of most auspicious attributes! KalyaaNa

guNaarNavaa! After so many births and time- now- I

have been blessed with your divine mercy right here as

if there is no such better more capable recipient of

Your grace that this object (i.e. me).

 

I am getting drowned slowly and slowly; At least one

who is nearer to the shore- may catch hold of the

shores or yell for help. For the one who is in the

middle, there is no way he can seek help. If one is

drowned in the well, there can be some sort of hold if

the hand is extended; how can there be any support or

escape in the middle of vast, deep ocean? Since You

are ananthan- manifesting everywhere, You alone are

the hold for me at the middle of this deep vast ocean

and there can be none else. For some, there may be

some sort of wood, or boat at the middle of sea; but

there is no assurance that it would also enable one to

reach the shore.. But You are the means and as well as

the end; You are the hold as well as the shore itself;

You are boat as well as the destination. So there can

be no better hold for me than You to escape myself

from this suffering ocean of samsaara.

 

Please do not give me some fruits as pleasures of

worldly objects and tempt me to be in this samsaara

and let me get drowned further and further. Even if it

is deemed pleasure it would still make me drown

further… No escape. I am blessed to get you as the

shore or hold now- due to Your grace and my crying

aloud- because of my suffering and being unable to

endure the suffering any further. If You give me

pleasures then I may leave this hold and go away from

the shore i.e. You and may even forget You. I will

further get drowned further more. How can I firget?

How ca I afford to forget? I do not know when in

future – will I even be blessed again with Your grace

at such close quarters? For the one who is getting

droned, if there is a boat in the right and the shore

on the left- where will he go? Certainly the shore-

and he will not board the boat… unless he is a fool

and doe not know what he is doing. Similarly, let me

catch hold of Your feet now as the shore- and not be

tempted your offer of pleasures which may be deemed as

boat- that may not take me to the shore…

 

By the way- You and I are trying. You have been

waiting for me to turn towards You for so many births

of mine and now I am [due to your grace] turning

towards You. Sanma sanmaantharan kaathu- You had taken

so many briths- even avathArams- blessed so many

saasthrAs; came as so many achaaryas. Now I am blessed

to be caught in your circle. If You leave me, will I

even come back? I do not know. Will this most

valuable property of Yours- this jeevan- be able to

come back to You sooner? Never. Do not leave this

chance. Your kalyANa guNAs are also

innumerable-infinite. Your dayA is amazingly great.

Without that wonderful guNA of Your dayaa; other guNAs

would become defects for you.. Such faultless

blemishless Bhagawaan – You are- All these guNAs reach

You because of Your being Bhagawaan. Thus You prove

Your dayaa guNA by taking me to You – have mercy on

me.

Thus, the Saranagathi- that I performed is for your

benefit. Get benefited.
