Inspite of the natural temptations to salute the countless auspicious

GuNams of Saptha Gireesan , Swamy Deiskan focussed on one

GuNma ( Viz) the DaayA GuNam of the Lord of Thirumalaa .

Swamy Desikan composed one of most powerful SthOthrams

consisting of 100 SlOkams on the Lord of Venkatam Hills revealing

the Lord's multifaceted aspects of Dayaa ( Compassion) for us ,

the Bhaddha Jeevans .

Srimath Poundarikapuram Andavan Aasramam is planning to bring

out an important monograph in the near future that will contain

the marvellous commentaries of many Scholars and AchAryAs on

Swamy Desikan's Dayaa Sathakam . That monograph housing

the many commentaries of VaishNavite Scholars is expected

to exceed 800 pages . All of us will be blessed to enjoy the brilliant

insights provided by the above scholars and that monograph will

be assembled by Oppiliappan Koil U.Ve. Vidwaan , Dr. V.N .VedAntha

Desikan , the editor of this series on Swamy Desika SthOthrams .

Sofar , Dr.VedAntha Desikan following the niyamanam of His

AchAryan , Srimath PoundarIkapuram Andavan has released

similar monographs on (1) Sri GopAla Vimsathy (2) Bhagavath

DhyAna sOpAnam (3) Abheethi Sthavam and (4) DasaavathAra

SthOthram .

 

The DasAvathAra SthOthram was composed by Swamy Desikan

regarding the Archaa Murthys in the DasaavathAra PerumAL Sannidhi

constructed by Thirumangai AzhwAr at Srirangam . Swamy Desikan

used to have His morning anushtAnams at a site on the banks of Cauveri

close to DasAvathAra Sannidhi and stopped always at this Sannidhi

before going to have the morning SEvai of the dhivya dampathis at the Main

temple . Thus arose the DasAvathAra SthOthram according to our

AchAryAs . Sri GopAla Vimsathy was composed at Thiruvaheendhrapuram.

Bhagavath DhyAna sOpAanam emulating ThiruppANAzhwAr's

MangaLAsAsanam of Periya PerumAl came in to being at Srirangam

Sannidhi of Lord RanganAthaa. Abheethi Sthavam was composed

at KarnAtakaa (Sathyagalam) during Swamy's self-imposed exile from

the turbulent Srirangam during the invasion of the temple town by

the invaders from the north .

 

When the commentaries on Swamy Desikan's sthOthram would be

completed some time in the year 2005 C.E , it will be a great occasion

for celebrations and thanks giving to bring under one roof all these

rare and difficult to access commentaries on Swamy Desikan's

Twenty Eight SthOthra Granthams . We are fortunate to benefit

from the vision of Srimath PoundarIkapuram Andavan and the dedicated

kaimkaryam of the great scholar from Oppiliappan Sannidhi ,

Dr.V.N.VedAntha Desikan to translate that powerful vision .
