Dear BhakthAs:

Today , we will studythe second paasurams of Thirumangai

on ThirukkOttiyUrAn .

Second Paasuram :

********************

Yevva(m) nOy tavirppAn YemakkiRai inn-nahai-thuvar vaay

NilamahaL sevvi thOya vallAn ThirumAmahatkku iniyAn

mouvval maalai vaNDAdum mallikai mAlayOdum aNaintha mArutham

Dhaiva(m) nARa varum ThirukkOttoiyUrAnE

(meaning) : Our Lord (Swamy) is powerful to destroy all

samsAric afflictions that are of the form of sorrow. He has

the leaning to be overcome by the sweet smiles and the coral

red lips of BhUmi DEvi .He is dear to Periya PirAtti. He resides

in the dhivya dEsam with the divine fragrance arising from

the breeze wafting the combined scent of the just blossomed

Mallikai and Mullai flowers .

(Comments) : The ubhaya NaachiyAr's mangaLAsAsanam by

Kaliyan is witnessed here. Vedam says : " Hreesccha tE Lakshmeesccha

Pathnyou " . The first of the three VyAhruthis ( BhU:) follows PraNavam

( The Lord) . That BhU dEvi is saluted by the Vedam as " Hree " .

BhagavAn has been compared to the divine Harichandana tree.

Swamy Desikan points out that this Harichandana tree(our Lord)

becomes nourished by the association with BhUmi dEvi ( Harichnadana:

asou Thvath SangamAth labdha pOsha: ). She is the boundary

for the Lord , who is like a limitless ocean ( VishNu jaladhE: vElA).

She ( BhUmi DEvi ) is the MaayA VarAha Mahishi , the dear wife of

the Kapata VarAhan . She is saluted especially by Thirumangai

before even Sri DEvi because of Her KshAmA guNam and for

serving as the means for the SaraNAgathy to Her Lord by

the frightened sinners ( Nithya aparAdha nivahAth chakithasya

JanthO: Mukundha charaNOu ganthum , KshamE , Thvam SaraNam).

BhUmi Devi's anaga anukampa ( matchless compassion) propels

Her to rush to the rescue of Her children .

After his salutations to BhUmi dEvi ( " Inn nahai thuvar vaay Nila

MahaL ) , Kaliyan turns his attention to SrI DEvi , who is equally

dear to ThirukkOttiyUrAn. She stands on the right side of

ThirukkOttiyUrAn and enhances Her Lord's soundharyam

( Sva-- KaanthyA BhUshayantheem) . Kaliyan knows

the Sri Tattvam well . In that tatthvam , it is implicit that

those who eulogize Her will be blessed with every kind of

Iswaryam. She plays a wonderful chess game with Her Lord

and always wins , when it comes to the sinned jeevans

gaining the anugraham of Her Lord . If Her Lord has

the SvabhAvam to destroy all samsAric sorrows ( " Yevvam

nOy tavirppAn = aapannArthi prasamana vidhou Bhaddha

dheekshan) , then Sri Devi has identical thoughts to join

Her Lord in these efforts as His dharma pathnee and

Saha dharmiNi ( EikamahyOpapannAm , Priya sahachree).

Wherever Her(SrI Devi's) auspicious glances fall , the assembly of

riches compete with one another to be the first and to bless

the object of Her KatAksham ( YasyAm yasyAm disi viharatE ,

Devi dhrushti: TvadheeyA , TasyAm TasyAm ahamahamikAm

tanvathE SampadhOgA: ) . She is the abode of eternal wealth

( kalyAnAnAm avikala nidhi: ); She is the boundary of

compassion ( KaaruNya SeemA ). She is the divine

consort and the highest of the Iswaryam of the Lord ,

who has the ever fragrant VedAs as the MandhAraa

garlands on His crown ( Nithya aamOdhA nigama vachasAm

MouLi mandhAra mAlA , Madhu Vijayina : dhivyA sampath ).

She is the wish granting KaamadhEnu for the entire world

that seeks Her anugraham ( Sakala bhuvana prArTanA

KaamadhEnu: ) . She is ThirumAmahaL and ThirukkOttiyUrAn

is " ThirumAmahatkku IniyAn " .

Thus in this dhivya dEsam , Thirumangai performs

the MangaLAsAsanam for the Ubhaya NaacchiyArs

of Lord Soumya NaarAyaNan and starts first with

the eulogy of BhUmi DEvi because of being the initiative

that She took in gaining the VarAha Charama sklOkam

for the benefit of Her children .

Sri Soumya NaarAyaNa ParabrahmanE Nama:

Daasan , Oppiliappan Koil VraradAchAri Sadagopan
