Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Let us continue to enjoy Poigai AzhwAr

aruLiccheyalgaL…

His Mudhal ThiruvanthAthi 38th verse is the next one:

Urum variyaravam oNkuRavar maalyaanai,

pEra eRintha perumaNiyai, - kaarudaiya

minnenRu puRRadaiyum vEngadamE, mElasurar

ennenRa maala thidam.

38

a poetic imagination! A brilliant verse! AzhwAr says:

just like Thirumalai Srinivasan, the snake, the

gypsies, elephants, etc.. are also enjoyed by AzhwAr

here. They too are equally glorious.

By living in this greatest of Divya Desams, namely

Thirumalai, the gypsies are so blessed. They see

elephant walking through their fields and their gaits

would destroy the fields and hence they attempt to

chase away those elephants.. In order to chase them

away, they throw at the elephant, a big valuable gem

stone which is available aplenty in this divya desam

[due to Sri PadmavathI samEtha Sri Srinivasan’s

kataaksham].

The blessed snake whose body has got lot of beautiful

stripes on its body- also living in this divya desam,

hisses and crawls on the mountain. When it sees a huge

lustrous gem stone being thrown in the sky [while

those gypsies threw a the elephant], the snake gets

scared that it is the lightning that has struck and

rushes to enter into its home of small hole.

Even the grandest Nithyasooris proudly and joyously

proclaim this divya Desam that it is Their Lord Sriya:

Pathi Sriman Narayanan’s residence. Em ennum maaladdu

idam..

A wonderful poetic imagination!

Like KulasekarAzhwAr mentioned in his PerumAL

Thirumozhi, emperumAn malaiyil yEthEnum aavEnE.. Let

me become anything on this mountain of my Lord.. It is

a blessed birth even to be born a snake, an elephant

or the gypsy in this divya desam and live in here.

AzhwAr enjoys a scenic beauty and also touches upon

the wealth abundantly available here. AzhwAr also is

overwhelmed by the vairAgya of the gypsies not to mind

throwing even the most valuable gem stone; they

possess no ahankaara mamakaaram and always associate

themselves with the Lord as His sEsha bhoothan.

One can greatly be moved by Kulasekara’s pAsurams

[which we will enjoy later] wherein he longs for being

born as a step in Tirupathi Lord's

temple or a fish in the Holy pushkaraNi or a seNbhaga

tree in

Tirupathi(standing in front of the temple) or a Big

stone which can not be removed so easily; He even

wished to be born as a servant holding the Golden Bowl

in front of Sriman nArAyaNan to spit the water after

washing, gargling and cleaning His mouth in the

morning. Such was his desire to serve the Lord

ceaselessly and that too from a king!.( One can

imagine our plight with so little(or no) material

possessions and for that we walk with so much pride

with even a very little achievement(which too is

possible only with His grace)).

A sample pAsuram to taste the sweetness and longing

desire of KulasEkarAzhwAr before we conclude this

post.

what a wonderful verse. He says " I do not want to be a

king even if it is to rule this earth and the " vAn

lOkam " where there is great wealth, and where there

are beautiful damsels dancing around; I do not wish

even that; All that I want is to be born as a fish in

the pond (PushkaraNi) in Thirupathi.
