Guest guest
SrI: Dear BhakthAs of OppilA Appan : In the next two Paasurams , Thirumangai rejects the PurushArTam of Kaamam and the dukkham associated with it and gives that as reason for rejecting the worldly life ( manai Vaazhkkai ) pursuing siRRinbham and setting his mind on the pErinbham of ThiruviNNagarappan's darsanam and Kaimkaryam to Him . The 8th Paasuram housing these thoughts takes this form: kaathal seythu iLayavar kalavi tarum , vEdanai vinai athu veruvathalAm aathalin unathu adi aNuhuvan nAnn , pOthalar nedumudip-PuNNiyanE ANDAi unnaik-kaaNpathOr aruL yenakku aruLithiyEl VENDEn manai Vaazhkayai ViNNagar mEyavanE Oh ThiruviNNagarappaa ! As in the case of BhimasEna , who went thru many painful difficulties in bringing the KalyANa Sougandhikam flowers from the garden of KubEra to please his wife Draupathy , men waste their time to make their young women happy to win their hearts and to enjoy the resulting carnal pleasures , which ultimately ends up in disappointment and sorrow . These are frightening things ( athu veruvathalAm) . " iLayavar ( young women ) kaathal seythu kalavi tarum ( through the act of expressing their carnal desires through physical union ) ultimately leads to suffering and sorrow thru obsessions and disappointments . Therefore says Thirumangai in a mood of VivEkam that he would like to stay away from the pursuit of such Kaamam ( distracting desires) and would prefer the adornment of the tall crown ( nedu mudi=TiruvabhishEkam ) of ThiruviNNagarappan , which is the most appropriate place for those fragrant flowers to blossom on time . Thirumangai begs the Lord to grant His darsanam and promises to give up all the worldly pleasures . Periya Thirumozhi : 6.1.9 **************************** saathalum piRatthalum yenRu ivaRRaik-kaathal seyyAthu unn kazhal adainthEn Othal sey naan maRayAhi umbar aathal sey MoovuruvAnavanE ANDAi unnaik-KaaNpathOr aruL yenakku aruLitiyEl VENDEn maanai vaazhkkayai ViNNagar mEyavanE Here , Thirumangai rejects both Manushya Aanandam as well as the dEva janmam associated with even superior pleasures ( " Indhira lOkam aaLum accuchvai peRinum vENDEn " ) . " Punarapi Jananam , Punarapi maraNam , Punarapi Jananee jaDirE sayanam , iha samsArE bahu dhustArE , krupayA paalaya Paahi MUrArE " was the soulful cry of an AchArya , who was not far from Thirumangai's time .. Thirumangai abhors the experience of Undergoing endless cycles of births and deaths (Saathalum piRatthalum yenRivaRRai kaathal seyyAthu) and experiencing garbha vaasam again and again in different wombs ( Manushya, DEva, Thiryang etc) . Therefore , Oh ThiruviNagarappA ! adiyEn has arrived at Your sacred feet ( aathalAl Unn kazhal adainthEn) . adiyEn does not want to experience the Kshudhra Phalans of Yuvaa , Jaraa , MaraNam and Kaivalyam ( Youth , old age , death of the physical body and mere aathmAnubhavam/Kaivalyam ) . Oh Lord , who is the indweller of dEvAs with superior posts and who is of the form of the four VedAs ! If I am blessed to have Your soukumArya darsana aanandham , adiyEn will kick away the pleasures of this world in one instant and forever stay close to Your sacred feet . Periya Thirumozhi : 6.1.10 ****************************** This is the Phala Sruthi Paasuram for this set of ten Paasurams : poomaru pozhilaNi ViNNagar mEl , kaamaru seerk-kalikanRi sonna paamaru Tamizhivai paada vallAr Vaamanan adi iNai maruvuvarE After rejecting the great wealth desired by many , long life filled with sukhams , fame , glory , high birth , kaama bhOgams , dEvAnandham and Prakruthi sambhandham , Thirumangai opted out for a life free from all these distractions . Thirumangai longed for only one soubhAgyam (viz)., the darsana soubhAgyam of ThiruviNNagarappan in His archaa state at the dhivya dEsam of AakAsa Nagaram or VyOmapuri . Rest of the pleasures were worthless blades of grass for him . With that conviction and VairAgyam , Thirumangai reveals to us the Phalan of reciting his ten Paasurams on ThiruviNNagarappan prsiding over the dhivya dEsam adorned by fragrant flower gardens . Thirumangai states that those who recite and reflect on the inner meanings of his ( pious poet's ) paasurams set in Tamil will be attracted to the sacred and beautiful feet of the Lord and will stay there . In these beautiful Paasurams , Thirumangai instructed us on the hollowness of the worldly life and pointed out that the closeness to the Lord's sacred feet is the only PurushArtam to seek for lasting sukham .
