Let us enjoy the third paasuram of Thirumangai Mannan

( Periya Thirumozhi : 6.2.3 ) :

 

MaanEy nOkkiar tamm vayiRRuk-kuzhiyil uzhaikkum

unEr akkai tannai uthavAmai uNarnthuNarnthu

vaanE mAnilamE vanthu-(u)vanthu yen manatthu iruntha

tEnE Ninn-adainthEn ThiruviNNahar MeyavanE

 

(Meaning ) : Oh Lord of ViNNagar/Parama Padham ( VaanE ) !

Oh Lord of the gigantic prakruthi MaNDalam ( Maa nilamE ) !

Oh most delectable One ( tEnE) , who commutes often between

parama Padham and adiyEn's mind with relish ( vanthu vanthu

or Vanthu uvanthu ) ! After convincing myself through repeated

reflections (uNarnthu uNarnthu) that this fleshy and beautiful

body ( unEr aakkai ) that suffers pitiful garbha vaasam in the wombs of

charming ladies with beautiful eyes reminding one of the captivating

deer is of not much use to gain the Parama PurushArTam of Moksham ,

adiyEn has sought the sole refuge of Your sacred feet .

The women with beautiful doe-like eyes light the fire of

desire (kaamam) in men , which in turn leads to sambhOgam

( union) and birth of a child . The intent at the time was not to

beget suprajai with Bhakthi and VairAgyam . The body

of that child as it grows up will only engage in the worldly

pleasures rather than seeking Moksham .Convinced that

the pursuit of Bhakthi yOgam is an impossible task for some one

who was born under such circumstances , adiyEn seeks instead

SaraNAgathy . adiyEn realizes the matchless dayA of Yours ,

which makes You leave Your Parama BhOgya aasTAnam of

SrI Vaikuntam to reside in my heart lotus ; adiyEn recognizes

my lapses in not seeking You as Parama PurushArTam in

my previous births as the most delectable amrutham .

 

Oh my insatiable nectar , who resides as antharyAmi Brahman

inside my heart cavity in a subtle (sookshma) manner ! Right now

adiyEn is enjoying You as a rejuvenating amrutham with my

maamsa chakshus ( physical eyes ) at ThiruviNNagar .

AdiyEn realizes my follies in not performing AarAdhanam

for You after invoking You( performing aavAhanam ) in

the five places ( SthaNDilam , MaNDalam , Kumbham ,

Pushpam and PraTimA ( Vigraham) . adiyEn failed to recieve

pancha SamskArams to qualify me to perform AarAdhanam for

You . adiyEn followed the path that enhanced perishable leelaa

rasam instead of the fail safe path shown by You for our ujjevanam

( redemption , sustenance and release ) . After following that

path of wordly pleasures and recognizing that such a journey

is worthless to attain You , adiyEn has taken the turn in the road

now that has taken me to Your Thiruvadivaaram ( the proximity of

Your sacred feet here at ThiruviNNagaram ) . Please grant me

the protection of Your sacred feet and free me from future births

in this samsAram . This is the moving prayer of Thirumangai .
