Thiruvinnarappan's Paasurams : Periya Thirumozhi 6.2.7 ( Part XIV )

Let us enjoy today the seventh Paasuram , where Kaliyan appeals

movingly to ThiruviNNagarappan to take note of the changes in him

and explains to the Lord the reason why he arrived hurriedly at His

ThiruvadivAram . Here is the Seventh Paasuram :

 

vERaa yaan irandhEn vehuLAthu manam koLL yenthAi

aaRaa vem narahatthu adiyEnai idak-karuthik-

kooRA eivar vanthu kumaikkak-kudivittavarait-

tERAthu UnnadainthEn ThiruviNNahar MeyavanE !

 

(Extended Meaning ) : Oh My Father ! Yennappaa ! ThiruviNNagarappaa !

For a long , long time You stood next to me to rescue me from the miseries

of the PanchEndhriyams and save me from roasting in the fires of narakam ;

adiyEn did not take note of You and ran away (escaped) from You . adiyEn

acted as though I am a svatantra purushan and went on chasing insignificant

and vipareetha sukhams ( alpa/anithya sukhams , which ultimately condemns

one to narkaa vaasam ) . adiyEn is not surprised to note that You are angry

at me . Responding to the consequences of Your disappointment and

anger , adiyEn has transformed my way of life and stand penitent before

You now seeking Your grace . Therefore , You should abandon Your anger

over me. You may try to console me and say that I have ordered the sensory

organs to be under my control . adiyEn is skeptical on that matter . These

Indhriyams operate as per their will and resist even You , who is the

Svatantra

Purushan and as such they have to obey You . Such is their tenacity and

power !

Otherwise , how can adiyEn understand the sufferings that they subject

me to .

 

Please reflect on this matter . The PanchEndhriyams are determined

to torture me and land me in fierce narakams . Oh Lord of ThiruviNNagaram !

adiyEn may sound paranoid in questioning Your power to control them .

All of these doubts arise from the recollection of the sufferings that

adiyEn has undergone from their relentless operations . They stomp

repeatedly over me . Some times They gang up to attack ; other times ,

they work on me one at a time ; they never cease from their destructive

efforts to feed adiyEn's ruchi for SamsAra BhOgams . adiyEn has turned

a leaf now and am no longer the same . adiyEn has developed clarity of mind

and am offering this Aathma inside me to You , since that is Your property

..

Running far away from the upadhravams of the PanchEndhriyams , adiyEn

has developed VairAgyam and have arrived at Your sacred Thruvadi .

Please ahower adiyEn with Your anugraham and save me .
