Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Let us continue to enjoy PeiyAzhwAr’s wonderful

anubhavams on ThiruvEnkatam. Today’s verse on

ThiruvEnkatam is the 70th verse.

pukumathatthaal vaaypoosik keezthaaznthu, aruvi

ugumathatthaal kaalkazuvik kaiyaal, migumathatthEn

viNdamalar koNdu viRalvENG kadavanaiyE,

kaNdu vaNangum kaLiRu.

Yet another poetic skill and narration by AzhwAr!

The male lion generally has waters oozing out of its

hood and also from its eyes. The waters that ooze out

of its hood trickles down its face and so does the

water from its eyes. It appears these waters enter

into its mouth and the elephant washes its mouth. The

water coming down like the water-falls washes off feet

also. Thus cleansing itself, plucking the honey

dripping fragrant flowers with its trunk, the elephant

offers the same at the feet of ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan,

knowing the Supremacy of ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan; it

prostrates and pays its obeisance.

One should approach Bhagawaan with clean body, [and

mind also]. AzhwAr sees the elephant having its face

and mouth with waters and waters flowing down to its

legs - enjoys that the elephant performs Achamanam

uttering achuthaaya namah: ananthaaya namah: and

Govindhaaya namah:

It plucks the flowers and offers at the feet of the

Lord – the unparalleled One- ThiruvEnkatamudaiyaan and

prostrates at His Feet. Even the elephant (the animals

are not supposed to have as much intellect and vivEkam

as human beings) realises His greatness and pays its

obeisance, performs Saranagathi. Should we, so called

more intelligent not realise and be aware of His

Supremacy, our eternal belongingness to Him and follow

aachaaram and anushtanam by going to Him purer;

perform nithya karma like Sandhyavandhanam etc.. ? The

list will go on...

He is Sarva Swami; akila jagath Swamin; asmath

swaamin. He is the only one who can save us from

samsaaric affliction.

This reminds me of: [sri Satakopan Swamin's post few

years ago- extract is given below]

Sriman KrupAjala Nideh sritha sarvaloka

Sarvajna saktha natha vatsala sarvaseshin I

Swaamin Suseela Sulabhaasrita PaarijAtha

Sri Venkatesa charaNou saraNam Prapathyeh II

The slokam goes on to offer Prapatthi at the Lotus

feet of the Lord. This slokam addresses the easily

accessible Paarijaatha pushpam standing on the top of

the seven Hills as Sarva Seshin [master of all]

Sarvajnan [the Omniscient], Krupaajala Nidhi [the

wealth of Krupai- grace and compassion], Sarva

Shakthan [Omnipotent] and SwAmin [Master]. Each of the

Naamaas incorporated in this verse are powerful

reminders of the Lord of Alamelu Mangaa , who has

Dayaa as His cardinal Kalyaana GuNam.

Each of these Naamaas can be connected to Dayaa DEvi

saluted by Swami Desikan in his Daya Sathakam. Swami

Desikan has invoked Lord Srinivasa's Dayaa as a Devi

and conversed with Her through the Slokas of DayA

sathakam.
